What frustrates me most is how they handle rent increases. When your payment is due or late, they have no problem contacting you by phone, text message, and email. But when it's time to raise your rent, they claim the only notification is a letter sent through the mail. That seems very convenient for them and unfair to customers.
I started with a very small unit (I beieve it's 5x8) at $70 per month. Then, with virtually no warning, my rent increased by $53 in a single month. Not $10. Not $20. Not even $30. A $53 increase on a unit that was already overpriced for its size. That's a massive jump and completely unreasonable.
Extra Space Storage openly states that rental rates are not guaranteed and can be increased periodically on month-to-month rentals. However, just because they can raise rates doesn't mean they should do so in such an excessive way while relying on mailed notices that many customers may never see.
As a result, I'm moving out. It's disappointing because the facility itself was fine, but the pricing practices feel deceptive and customer-unfriendly.
I honestly question some of the positive reviews here because my experience has been the exact opposite. Customers deserve better communication, more transparency, and reasonable rent increases—not surprise hikes that make staying impossible
