I’m moving out next weekend after almost two years at this storage facility, and I wanted to share my experience so others can be careful about falling into the same situation. When I first rented my unit, I was paying around $130 a month. Today, that same unit is $240 a month. The rates seem to increase almost every three months, and I’ve had to repeatedly ask them to keep my price from going up.
I went in today to speak with the woman at the facility and explain my situation. She said they could possibly bring the price down a little. I explained that I could go on their website and see units of the same size being advertised for almost half of what I’m currently paying. I told her that, at this point, I would have to close out my current rental, rent another unit, and move all of my belongings just to get a reasonable price. Her response was essentially that’s what I would have to do. She then remained quiet, making me feel like I was bothering her. I walked out extremely disappointed.
I found another storage facility offering the same size unit for $122 a month. So, I’ll be signing with them and moving everything next weekend.
I’m sharing this because I wish I had known what I was getting into. Please be careful and pay attention to those frequent rate increases. What may seem like a reasonable price when you first move in can become a completely different story over time. $130 a month turned into $240 a month in less than two years. Definitely shop around and don’t be afraid to move your belongings if the price keeps going up. There are better options out there.
