I came in on fathers day, june 21st to buy a rug at the pensacola location by the cordova mall. I was treated very poorly by the cashier, her name was madeline/maddie B and her employee number on the receipt is 630178.
I have had her check me out several times before, and every time she has had a condescending tone, and treated me like I was stupid. Most times I excused it because I am unfamiliar with the process of in store pick ups, and the checkout procedure confuses me somehow (i know its simple, but i am small brained in public spaces)
This most recent time, was the absolute worst.
I asked for a designated shopper discount, and am typically asked for my ID to confirm my identity. Instead, I was given a questionnaire to confirm I was not lying. When I asked for the designated shopper discount, her tone changed from customer service to upset and condescending. She was suddenly short and blunt. “you dont work here” her tone surprised me so i kinda flinched back, she said “sorry i just ask because i have literally never seen you here before” and I said that is correct, I am my brothers designated shopper.
she asked me these following questions:
“who is your brother?”
“does he work at spanish fort, jacksonville or pcb?”
“which location in washington?”
“how long has he worked there?”
“why are you in pensacola?” (this is when she started getting ruder/ more upset based on her tone and delivery)
“its just crazy to believe you travel literally across the country like ACROSS the country”
When she asked me to put my code in, the card reader screen went blank. I asked how to put it in, she said “just type it in” but was looking at the register with her fingers on the num pad. I said like I tell you? and she sighed so I started telling her the number, she said “type it in type it in” really quickly, and i just looked at her confused. she said “sorry, its right there just type it in” I tried to say theres nothing there and she interrupted me and said “type it in” louder and more aggressively. I could tell she was upset with me so I just pointed at the thing until she noticed it didnt have anything on it. She tried to play it off “i cant see it so”
I’m not gonna say I am a perfect customer, but I definitely try my best, and I try to be prepared but I really can’t memorize the system of every shop I go to. Lots of loyalty programs, lots of different numbers and processes to remember for my own jobs.
I tried to reflect on how I could have been a better customer to avoid this interaction, but realized that a more understanding cashier would have been happy to guide me through the transaction.
I regularly visit monthly, and have been checked out by a few different employees here including first day cashiers. All of them were understandably confused (having not seen me before, and the closest location is still pretty far from pcola) but still kind when I asked for a discount. Every one of them follows the procedure, and confirms my identity via ID and moves on. She so far, has always given me a few questions to confirm which location my brother is at. Sometimes quicker and blunter with a “where does he work” and sometimes more thorough like sunday (although sunday was the worst, and confirmed to me she thinks I am lying and not that she is simply curious)
In the future, I will simply ask a floor associate to help check me out. I wanted to make sure this interaction was reported because it isn’t fair to them or any other customers that have to deal with her behavior and attitude.

Was really looking forward to coming here... it was neat, a little smaller than I had imagined. Not as many foreign or exotic items as I was hoping for but definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and looking for items you might not be able to find in your big box stores.

I swear if I could live here.... from beers and wine, to household goods and food. You can find those things you might be missing from the old country, or things you might look forward to trying in your new one.
