This review is not directed at any individual employee at this facility. Everyone I spoke with was extremely nice, courteous, and helpful. My issue is with the conditions inside what is marketed and rented as a climate-controlled storage facility.
I stored furniture and personal belongings here specifically because climate control was important to protecting them. Unfortunately, I discovered extensive mold growth on multiple pieces of furniture and other belongings inside my unit.
I keep a temperature/humidity meter in my storage units specifically to monitor environmental conditions. During the period when this occurred, my meter was showing temperatures and relative humidity readings in the 80s for a sustained period of time. The photographs I have taken document the resulting mold contamination and damage to my belongings.
There was another warning sign that is impossible to ignore: the odor inside the facility, particularly in the back areas where my unit was located, is overpowering. I was in unit 1514, in case anyone else reading this is in that area.
Once I entered through the sliding doors leading toward the storage units, there was an extremely strong musty/mold-like smell. As my photographs also document, there appears to be visible mold growth on or around multiple air vents. Seeing that growth on components of the building itself raises serious concerns for me about the environmental conditions beyond my individual unit.
What makes this particularly frustrating is discovering that the insurance coverage for the storage unit excludes mold and damage resulting from temperature or humidity changes. In other words, I paid for climate-controlled storage specifically to help protect my belongings from damaging environmental conditions, yet when those conditions apparently failed and my property was damaged, I discovered that this type of damage was excluded from coverage.
I understand that “climate controlled” does not mean that a facility can guarantee one exact temperature or humidity level every minute of every day. But sustained relative humidity readings in the 80% range, an overpowering musty odor, visible apparent mold growth around air vents, and mold contamination on my belongings are not conditions I reasonably expected from climate-controlled storage.
Again, the employees I dealt with were kind and professional, and this review should not reflect negatively on them. My one-star rating reflects the environmental conditions I personally encountered, the damage to my property, and my frustration at learning that mold and temperature/humidity-related damage are excluded from the insurance coverage.
If you are considering storing furniture, artwork, documents, collectibles, antiques, or anything else sensitive to moisture here, bring your own temperature/humidity meter and check your unit regularly. Do not simply assume that because the unit is advertised as climate controlled, the conditions are appropriate for your belongings. I wish I had discovered the problem sooner.
