I went to Lowes specifically to get keys copied. The only service available was the Minute Key vending machine. While it said its keys are guaranteed, not one of the six keys I had it copy work. As I watched it make the keys, I noticed that the machine failed to file them well after cutting. One key still had a piece of metal hanging off it, which I had to carefully pull off to avoid getting cut. This was my first time using their vending machine. I didn't know I would not receive any receipt unless I opted in for an electronic receipt by giving them my email. When no receipt came after the first set of keys, I input my address to get a receipt for the second, not seeing until it was too late that they had added the checkmark for me to opt me into their marketing emails, which I did not want. (I will unsubscribe.) So I got a receipt for the second set of keys, but not the first set, and unhappily got opted into their email marketing campaign. Now I have to figure out how to get my ~$17 back for keys that are useless. I suppose I will have to make another trip into town now to explain to Lowes that their vending machine is a disservice to their customers, not a service. Next time I will go to a real hardware store that still has a human make and file your keys, with a receipt and a real guarantee that the keys will work, or they will do it again until they work, or give your money back. I will never try another key kiosk again. Just so you know, I am tech savvy. I use AI, build my own websites, courses, etc. I'm a social scientist protesting profiteers who gouge decent human beings with high prices for bad service and things that don't work and then create obstacles for customers who want to make them do right. Stay away from Minute Key and key vending machines! Leave the vending machines to engrave dog and cat tags, not keys.

The keys are very easy to make but at the end I must have missed something important because my keys have a lot of fragments that didn’t come off and don’t try removing them with your fingers I did and split my thumb open lesson learned those little pieces of metal can do some serious damage and the thumb is going to remind me every time I go to the gym
