Certified Arborist Services
Our goal is to help you create and maintain healthy lawns and landscapes, using the most eco-friendly–yet effective–treatments and processes available. In some cases where pesticides are the only option, we aim to use as little as necessary.
Aeration
If you hail from a humid climate, you may not be aware of the need to aerate your lawn. Aeration allows air, moisture, and nutrients to reach the roots of your grass. In Colorado’s dry climate, this is especially important.
The Natural Way, Inc. uses a plug aerating machine to remove a core or plug (rather than simply a puncture) of grass from your lawn. This is one of the easiest, eco-friendly things you can do to keep your lawn healthy. Please call us to schedule a time to aerate your lawn today!
Emerald Ash Borer treatment
The Emerald Ash Borer is a type of beetle that feeds on ash trees. While not dangerous in its native habitat (Asia), this insect is devastating to all ash trees and will kill those that are untreated. EAB was found in Boulder in September of 2013. Please contact us if you think you have ash trees so we can measure your trees and provide options to help reduce the impact these insects will have on your property.
Ash trees will need to be treated annually for their useful lifetime, so decisions will need to be made to treat or remove/replace trees. If you are going to treat your trees, please let us know as soon as possible so we can schedule your service, as timing is a key factor of successful control. Our arborists are available to discuss treatment options, timing, cost, and any other questions.
Lawn Care
Our lawn care program has been developed over about 20 years. How is our program better for the environment and your lawn? We never broadcast spray an entire lawn with herbicide or any other chemical spray. We spot spray only. Broadcast sprays put down large amounts of chemicals that are harmful to many soil organisms, from earthworms to nematodes to micro-anthropods. These soil organisms help to naturally aerate the soil, break down organic matter, release nutrients to the plants, increase soil quality, naturally fertilize the soil with their excrement and shedding, increase water holding capacity, and many other beneficial properties. Using a “weed and feed” fertilizer or spraying an entire lawn area with herbicide will kill most if not all these very beneficial soil organism which are critical for plant health.
Our lawn fertilizer is locally made in a livestock feed facility certified by the FDA. It was developed by an agronomist (soil expert) and tested by Colorado State University. It is the only lawn fertilizer that contains available, non-staining iron which is critical for a deep green color of grass, especially in mid-summer. Other fertilizers that do not have iron, or their iron is not available to plants, rely on nitrogen to green up the grass in the heat of the summer, high nitrogen pushes excess growth and creates high stress.
We also use wetting agents to increase water absorption, retention, and infiltration into and within the root zone.
Tree & Plant Care
Our plant nutrition program is tailored to root health and soil health. We all know the adage “healthy roots equal healthy plants.” We incorporate organic sugars and other foods for plants as well as soil organisms. Plant roots have evolved to live in synergy with soil organisms. In fact, roots exude substances that soil organisms use as food while they aerate the soil, break down organic matter, and make unavailable nutrients available to the plants. Many companies sell tree or plant fertilizer programs which are mostly cheap liquid nitrogen which just forces the plant to push vegetative growth. We don’t call our nutrient program a fertilizer because we are not trying to push as much vegetative growth as possible, we are not growing an agricultural crop. Pushing vegetable growth forces the plant to expend its energy budget in one area sacrificing valuable resources in other areas of growth such as biochemical defense, strong dense cell walls, root growth, and expending reserve starches. Plants that are forced to push excess vegetative growth have many negative effects, which have been shown through extensive university research, such as; more prone to insect attacks and infestations, weak woody growth, excess growth, increased storm damage, and decreased disease resistance.

Tree Removal & Stump Grinding
Occasionally, trees do need to be removed because of disease, safety issues, or city ordinances. The Natural Way, Inc. can safely and professionally remove trees from residences or commercial areas. We provide stump grinding services as well.
Free Firewood & Mulch
Wood is a byproduct of our services; we typically take logs and chips to recycling centers, nurseries, city parks or residential customers for valuable bedding material.
Utilizing Mulch
Mulch provides many important cultural advantages for a landscape. A proper layer of mulch can reduce weeds, conserve moisture by reducing water loss through evaporation, enhance root growth by cooling the root system in the summer and extending root growth through the fall, as well as reduce soil erosion by preventing soil movement.
When we are in your area, we would be happy to deliver free mulch. If you need a special delivery, call us for an appointment. A delivery charge may apply (typically $20).
Wood
Similar to our offer of free mulch, if you are interested in utilizing local wood for firewood or another purpose, please contact our office and we would be happy to consider your request. A delivery charge may apply.

Had a great experience with The Natural Way, Inc! It was a pleasure working with Evan who came over promptly for a free quote. He provided us with really useful information about our trees and quoted us a very reasonable price. The technicians arrived when they were supposed to and got the job of trimming and pruning three large trees done beautifully. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone and hire them again for future tree-related projects!

Questionable business practices…
Last year I contacted this company and got a quote for tree services while we were comparing our options.
They recently sent me email thanking me for trusting them with the care of our trees and included an updated service contract on auto renewal for this year.
I reviewed the quote from last year that I found in my email. A couple of the services on their quote indicated they would be good for two years. I was confused why these services were auto renewing from the previous year if they were good for two years.
After speaking with my wife, she let me know we actually went with a different tree care company and chose not to use The Natural Way last year.
Despite us deciding not to use this company and deciding to not trust them with the care of our trees, they sent me an email implying that I was on an auto renewed contract with them, and it would require me contacting them to get off the auto renewed agreement (that we never made).
The follow up communications from this company were extremely deceitful, making me falsely believe we had used them to take care of our trees last year. They also lead me to believe I had agreed to automatically renewal last years services which we had done by a different company.
Be careful about even getting a quote from this company as us comparing them as an option resulted in deceitful follow up communications a year later.

Excellent response to a fallen tree plus a review of the status of other trees. Would highly recommend them
The Emerald Ash Borer is an invasive beetle originating from Asia that poses a severe threat to ash trees in North America. This insect specifically targets and can be fatal to untreated ash trees. EAB was first detected in Boulder in September 2013. We encourage property owners with ash trees to contact us for a tree assessment and to discuss potential protective measures against these destructive insects.
What trees are affected?
All species of ash trees are susceptible to Emerald Ash Borer infestation. It's important to note that Mountain Ash, despite its name, is not a true ash species and is therefore not affected by EAB.
Should all Ash trees be treated?
We currently recommend an annual application of systemic insecticide for all high-value ash trees to protect against initial EAB attacks. The effectiveness of treatments may vary depending on factors such as tree size, proximity to known EAB activity, tree location, overall tree health, soil moisture conditions, and the intensity of insect populations.
When should I start treating my tree?
Ash trees require annual treatment throughout their lifespan for protection against EAB. Property owners need to decide whether to treat their trees or opt for removal and replacement. If you choose to treat your trees, please contact us promptly to schedule the service, as timing is crucial for effective control. Our arborists are available to discuss treatment options, timing, costs, and any other concerns you may have.
If my tree is already treated for an ash borer, will I be protected against EAB?
The treatment you may currently have for Lilac-Ash Borers is different from what's required for Emerald Ash Borer protection. EAB necessitates a distinct treatment approach, although some treatments for larger trees can address both issues simultaneously.
Is there anything else I can do to help my Ash trees survive?
Trees in good health typically respond more favorably to EAB treatment programs. We strongly advise implementing an annual nutrient program for your ash trees to support their overall health. This program is designed to enhance metabolic function, root health, and root vigor, rather than promote rapid growth. Additionally, we recommend supplemental watering during winter months and summer heat. Our hydration program incorporates wetting agents and natural extracts to improve water absorption and retention in the soil. For pricing information on our nutrient program, please contact us.
How much will it cost?
The cost for EAB treatment is determined by the tree's diameter and the specific treatment options chosen. We offer complimentary, no-obligation estimates and would be pleased to discuss the various treatment options available for your ash trees.
What is the Emerald Ash Borer and how does it affect ash trees?
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive beetle from Asia that threatens North American ash trees by targeting and potentially killing untreated ash trees. EAB was first detected in Boulder in 2013. Property owners with ash trees should consider assessments and protective measures.
Which types of trees are susceptible to Emerald Ash Borer infestation?
All true ash tree species are affected by EAB. Mountain Ash is not a true ash and is not susceptible to this pest.
Should I treat all my ash trees for Emerald Ash Borer?
Annual systemic insecticide treatment is recommended for all high-value ash trees to protect against EAB. Treatment effectiveness depends on tree size, location, health, and insect population levels.
When should ash tree treatment for EAB begin and how is it maintained?
Ash trees should receive annual treatment throughout their lifespan for EAB protection. Contact us promptly to schedule treatment and discuss options, timing, and costs.
Will treatments for Lilac-Ash Borer protect my trees against Emerald Ash Borer?
No, EAB requires a different treatment than Lilac-Ash Borer, although treatments for larger trees may address both simultaneously.
What additional steps can help my ash trees survive Emerald Ash Borer infestation?
Implement an annual nutrient program to maintain tree health, and provide supplemental watering during winter and summer. Our hydration program uses agents to improve soil water absorption and retention.
How much does Emerald Ash Borer treatment cost?
Pricing depends on tree diameter and treatment options. Complimentary estimates and consultation on treatment choices are available upon request.
