Extremely disappointed with Lowe’s. Ordered a refrigerator on a Friday with promised delivery on Sunday. They messed up the delivery date and now I’m getting my fridge on Wednesday… the entire reason I went with Lowe’s over Home Depot was for better and faster service. I was let down. Won’t be shopping here ever again, they’ve lost our business. Terrible experience.

Solid, Dependable, and Vast: My Trip to Lowe's (Citrus Heights)

Whenever my husband, as in man, and I have a major home project up in Nevada City, we try our absolute best to support our local independent hardware stores. But let’s be realistic: when you are re-doing a back deck or buying a major appliance, the local shops just don't have the massive inventory you need. That is when we pack up the truck and head down Highway 49 to the Lowe's on Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights.
It is a corporate giant, yes, but for big projects, it gets the job done well. Here is my 4-star breakdown.
The Good Stuff
There is a reason we pass a couple of other options to come to this specific Lowe's when we are down the hill.
The Garden Center: This is my absolute favorite part of the store. Their nursery section is massive, exceptionally well-watered, and beautifully organized. They have a fantastic selection of perennials, native shrubs, and seasonal annuals. While I still buy my specialty seeds locally, I always find great deals here on bulk soil, mulch, and sturdy terracotta pots.
Organization & Cleanliness: Compared to some other massive orange-branded home improvement warehouses, Lowe’s always feels a bit brighter, cleaner, and less chaotic. The aisles are wide, the lighting is good, and it doesn't feel like you're dodging forklifts at every single turn.
Appliance Selection: We recently had to replace a washing machine, and the staff in the appliance section were incredibly helpful. They didn't push the most expensive model on us, walked us through the energy efficiencies, and the delivery up to our tricky mountain driveway in Nevada County went off without a hitch.
Why It Loses One Star
It’s a great store, but it’s not entirely perfect.
The Employee Scavenger Hunt: While the appliance staff was great, trying to find assistance in the plumbing or electrical aisles is like playing a game of hide-and-seek. You can walk down five different aisles looking for a specific brass fitting and not see a single blue vest. When you finally do find someone, they are usually in the middle of helping three other frustrated DIYers.
The Weekend Gridlock: Do not, under any circumstances, go here at 10:00 AM on a Saturday unless you want to battle it out in the parking lot. The Citrus Heights traffic around Greenback Lane can get pretty congested, and the contractor loading zones get incredibly hectic.
The Verdict
If you need a specialized, rare screw or want a friendly, old-school chat about how to fix a leaky faucet, stick to your local hometown hardware store. But if you need 40 bags of premium mulch, a new kitchen appliance, or a flatbed full of lumber at a fair price, this Lowe's is reliable, clean, and well-stocked. It’s absolutely worth the drive down the hill.

I'll drive the extra miles to the "other" home supply store just to avoid getting accosted by either solar or AC salesman. The last time in this store I had an AC salesman find me in the hardware section and wouldn't leave me alone until I had to actually get upset with him. I've complained to several employees, but they tell me it's what corporate wants. If that's the case, then I'll go elsewhere.
