We are influenced by the great design movements of the past, particularly Shaker, Arts and Crafts, Bauhaus, Scandinavian and Mid-century Modern. These movements share principles that we consider fundamental to good design, like honoring natural materials, working with simple, organic forms and making the functional beautiful. To us, modern means taking the best of the past and reinterpreting it for life today.
With our York sofa, everyone—short, tall and in between—can have a seat. A Room & Board favorite since 1997, the seat height and depth of York is designed to accommodate a range of sizes with great support and comfort. This smaller scale and variety of pieces make it easy for this versatile collection to fit your floor plan.
The striking Callan chair has details you’ll appreciate from every angle. The contoured seat and back seem to float inside the frame, while horizontal quilting adds extra comfort. Available in three finishes, the solid wood frame offers an elegant profile with its soft curves and sophisticated tapered shape. It’s a perfect place to relax.
Inspired by the Arts and Crafts tradition, the Linear storage collection is built in a small woodworking shop in northern Wisconsin. Its refined, yet durable design features details like dovetail joinery and handcrafted hardware. Linear is available in two distinctive finishes that highlight the beauty of solid wood: natural wood protected with oil and wax or stained wood sealed with lacquer. With a variety of sizes and configurations, it's easy to find a Linear dresser that works in your space.
Despite its delicate, minimal design, Hudson's solid wood craftsmanship ensures that this bedroom collection is as durable as it is beautiful. Each Hudson bed is hand-signed and dated by the West Virginia artisan who built it. This bed features a mattress platform made of wood slats, eliminating the need for a box spring or foundation. We recommend a mattress height of 13 inches or shorter to achieve the ideal bed proportions.
Our classic Parsons table features a bold natural steel base with subtle weld marks that make each piece unique and showcase the craftsmanship of the Minnesota artisans who build each one by hand. Choose from a variety of top options to make Parsons your own. Please note: overall height may vary slightly depending on the top material you select.
Made by Wisconsin artisans, our classic Portica table features the clean modern look of a stainless steel base with mitered corners that require precise craftsmanship. Choose from a variety of top options to make Portica your own. Please note: overall height may vary slightly depending on the top material you select.
A Room & Board classic, the Slim shelves offer a balance of grace and strength. Natural steel gives weight to a delicate handcrafted design that features subtle weld marks unique to each piece.
Woven in Georgia using the finest New Zealand wool, the Arden rug invites you to kick off your shoes. The high loop pile and clean, minimal backing create a modern look with a deep, sink-in feel you'll love to enjoy barefoot.
Durable solid wood is transformed into the light, fluid profile of our Gibson end table through the skill of West Virginia woodworkers. Softly beveled edges, turned legs and unique contours contribute to this table’s mid-century elegance.
The Moda kids' bunk bed offers simple, functional design with a lacquer finish that keeps each bed looking great from toddler to teen years. Made from solid maple and white medium density fiberboard, the guard rail and ladder are included. This bed features a mattress platform made of wood slats, eliminating the need for a box spring or foundation. For bunk bed safety, we recommend a 6-inch thick mattress for the upper and lower bunk. Shop our kids' mattresses for a perfect fit.

Years ago, Nancy was an incredible resource when we bought our Metro sectional for our apartment. Recently, we bought a house and needed to furnish a much larger space more permanently. Again, Nancy was incredible helpful, meeting with us for hours to find the perfect living room and dining room furniture. I appreciate that Room and Board employs their own delivery drivers, that their salespeople are not paid on commission, and that local craftspeople make the furniture in the USA.

We purchased a table and decided to save $150 and pick up ourselves. BIG MISTAKE. They gave us the wrong base and no hardware. We called and they said they’d deliver the table assembled and take back the top and base. Delivery driver arrives with just a base and no hardware. When I complained that we were supposed to get an assembled table and, at a minimum, have hardware to assemble it, the driver was pretty rude.
In the end he found some hardware in the truck and we assembled the table but lesson learned. We’ve heard from several people about mistakes when doing pick up from room & board so just pay the delivery fee, hopefully that’s a smoother experience.

This review is long overdue. As we were planning a move that we decided we wanted some high quality new living room, kitchen, dining room and some other chairs for, it was an overwhelming task to do online and furniture stores are farer and fewer between. We knew we wanted an "upgrade" to our prior purchases, mostly from Ikea, Living Spaces, and the only furnitue places we found in our budget San Jose last time around (discount). We had an excellent hand-me-down couch from Room and Board however, so after reading a lot of online reviews we decided to give them a look in-person while in the city for a game.
What was helpful was I had created an online account and placed the items we were interested in to different favorites or "rooms" already. Once we arrived and wandered around a bit, finding some of the items we sat down to discuss. Unbeknownst to us there was a sales associate/designer sitting near us. She offered to help us find what we were looking for. She proceeded to spend 2 hours with us helping us find the items, choose the fabrics, and suggest pillow accessories. Jo-Antoinette was SO HELPFUL. Honestly this was the best furniture shopping experience we have ever had. The store has huge amounts of all of their fabrics in yardage and she carried them to the floor pieces and tucked them in so we could see how the ones we liked looked in the fabrics we were thinking of. She sent us home with sample pieces that are still helpful to this day as we choose accessories and window treatments. And we didn't even make a purchase that day. She offered no pressure. We were buying a new home that was unfinished and not slated to be for 4-6 more months but it was further from SF so we wanted to do our recon while still in the Bay Area.
She also helped to add our decisions to the "rooms" in my online account for easy ordering later. Once settled in to our new temporarily home for the last few months we were able to make our purchase and then set delivery once we had a move-in date.
The magic didn't stop there. They delivered to our home, unboxed, set up, moved around, and removed all trash.
Four months later we are still enjoying our new furniture - it has not disappointed.
They only cautionary tale I have is that once you place an order of an item from your saved "rooms" it disappears. So if you are like me, make note first on your fabric samples which item was going to which room. I mixed up two sets of pieces and didn't realize it until after the delivery people had left so we had to switch some heavy arm chairs upstairs/downstairs. I had made a note from memory as soon as i saw they disappeared from my saved list but apparently had mixed two up.
I highly recommend going to this Room & Board in person, and connecting with Jo-Antoinette.
