Instead, the kid at the counter told us we only needed to shock weekly, that a real test kit was unnecessary, and that we should bring in water samples for them to test instead. We asked multiple times for what we actually came for. Refused. Every time, same line: just shock. I don’t know if he was just an idiot or was told to push their “free” sample testing, but either way, this isn’t advice — it’s a funnel toward unnecessary, overpriced product down the line. Turns out this isn’t unique to this location — it’s a well-documented pattern across Leslie’s and pool stores generally. Their proprietary chemicals conveniently never quite fully solve the problem, so you’re back in a week or two with another sample, buying more. It’s a business model built on repeat trips from people who don’t realize they’re the product being sold. We ordered a Taylor K-2006C test kit online instead and looked into Trouble Free Pool, a community-run site for people who’d rather manage their own pool than get looped into a store’s testing pipeline. If you look at this place’s other reviews and see nothing but glowing praise, take it with a grain of salt — either fake, or from people who don’t know they’re being upsold. Predatory practice, avoid.
