  We hired Mirror Lake in 2024 to landscape our backyard after we installed a new pool. We told the company we wanted a maintenance free landscape that would provide some color and privacy from the neighboring houses. Like others have said, their bid was much higher than other bids we received, but we worked with them to reduce the budget and decided to go with them based on the pictures on their website and our hope that our backyard would look like their pictures. Everything looked great when first installed, but quickly began to deteriorate. About six months after installation several plants began to die. We reported the issue to Mirror Lake, and after several back and forth discussions they agreed to replace one of the dead plants. The other dying plants were ignored, and the one plant they did replace died within two months after it was replaced. In less than a year, more than half of the plants they installed have died and had to be removed. We think they died because they were the wrong plants for the location and environmental conditions were not conducive for them to survive. The irrigation system they installed does not cover the entirety of the plant beds and many of the irrigation heads are blocked by large plants that prevent plants at the back of the beds from receiving water. We brought this to their attention and the "adjusted" the heads to fix the issue. Given all the plants that died, I would say they did not fix the issue. On the maintenance free part, we discovered after six months that the plants Mirror Lake planted all around our pool deck produce massive amounts of berries and dropped a copious amount of leaves. The worse part is the berries attract a large number of birds which eat the berries and then add their droppings all over our pool deck permanently staining the tiles. This was brought to the attention of Mirror Lake when first noticed and it was basically ignored and we were told they use the plants all the time and never had any other complaints. Had we known these plants produce the amount of berries they do, we would have never agreed to the design presented by Mirror Lake. We put trust in Mirror Lake that they knew what they were doing and would honor our wishes in the design they came up with. In the end it was a mistake that we went with Mirror Lake for our landscaping needs and one that will cost us thousands to remedy their mistakes. We thought paying more for the landscaping would provide better results; Mirror Lake was double other bids we received. Buyer beware when hiring Mirror Lake and don't make the same mistake we did.

  Was really looking forward to working with Shawn and his staff. We'd heard nothing but fantastic reviews from friends and the internet. However, at our design meeting we were told that a pool was not possible in a "small" backyard and Shawn just didn't want to put a pool in have have it look strange. "I have a reputation, and I just don't want to do something that is going to look bad." Instead Shawn decided that instead of a pool to beat the summer heat, what my boys needed was raised dirt mounds and an underground tunnel to play in. Seriously, we went to talk to him about a small pool in our yard and this was his "design idea" because a pool was not possible. My wife and i asked him many times what it would take to put in a pool and he never would give us an answer. We brought in examples of small pools that people had done and they looked amazing. Needless to say we're not hiring Mirror Lake and will not be recommending them to anyone who asks. So less than a week later, Mirror Lake Designs responded to my bad review. Amazingly, their response has nothing to do with what actually took place. Mirror Lake took the time to write 8 paragraphs of a response containing nothing that actually took place. I'm glad they've been in business for 35 years, but unless you are will to give total control over to them, don't bother. My only regret now is, that we didn't tape the conversation. If it was possible to give 0 stars for a rating I would.
