  We have been using Extra Space Storage for years, and the experience has become absolutely ridiculous. Our rent has skyrocketed to an astronomical amount with frequent increases, yet if we check the website for a quote, we can get a larger unit for significantly cheaper than what we’re currently paying. When we questioned it, they actually had the nerve to blame us for being in a “special size” unit that supposedly costs more. There is nothing special about this unit. In fact, it’s smaller than other units that cost less. That excuse is insulting. On top of that, because of whatever they allow to go on in the surrounding units, our belongings have been completely trashed over the years. We’re talking drywall dust, debris, and mold covering our things. We have paid thousands and thousands of dollars to store our belongings here only to find them damaged. And somehow we’re the ones expected to clean the unit afterward—even though the drywall dust and debris clearly didn’t come from us. The mold wasn’t from us either. Most of it was concentrated on one side of the unit, while the dust came in from another direction, which makes it pretty obvious that it’s creeping in from elsewhere in the building. At one point they even allowed a random stranger to cut our lock off and put their own lock on our unit. We had to deal with cutting that person’s lock ourselves, and of course nobody reimbursed us for the cost or the time dealing with that mess. Another time the facility “accidentally” locked our unit so we couldn’t get into it, and of course no one was in the office to fix their mistake. After years of paying them thousands of dollars, the lack of accountability, the constant rent increases, and the damage to our belongings is unacceptable. We absolutely cannot recommend storing anything here unless you’re comfortable paying more and getting less while your property is exposed to damage and zero accountability.
