I'm not sure why Lowes ratings are low. My husband and I had a wonderful experience there. The store was clean and the staff from the return desk all the way back to the appliances were wonderful and very helpful. We purchased a stove Saturday and Carl made this purchase so easy. I purchased an AO Smith water softener($397.00) and the supporting Extended Protection Plan($89.97). The A O Smith softener had a 3 year warranty and the Lowes Extended Protection Plan was a 4 year plan, with the assurance of the sales person that I was covered for 7 years.
The water softener recently stopped working . I contacted Lowe's, only to find out that they had no record of my purchase of either. Fortunately I had the purchase receipt for both. Lowe's requested that I send the a copy of both, after which they were able to locate their copies. Lowe's responded that they were able to locate both receipts, but that the terms of the service contract had changed. The contract now states that the contract begins on the purchase date of the insured item, not the end of the manufacturer's warranty.
Why would anyone purchase a warranty on a product that already has a manufacturer's warranty covering the same time period?
How can a retailer change the terms of an earlier signed agreement?
2 of the 4 Lowe's employees I talked with described the Lowe's contract as beginning at the end of the end of the manufacturers. Beware, the Lowes employees are still out there selling this.
