The A O Smith softener had a 3 year warranty and the Lowes Extended Protection Plan was a 4 year plan, with the assurance of the sales person that I was covered for 7 years. The water softener recently stopped working . I contacted Lowe's, only to find out that they had no record of my purchase of either. Fortunately I had the purchase receipt for both. Lowe's requested that I send the a copy of both, after which they were able to locate their copies. Lowe's responded that they were able to locate both receipts, but that the terms of the service contract had changed. The contract now states that the contract begins on the purchase date of the insured item, not the end of the manufacturer's warranty. Why would anyone purchase a warranty on a product that already has a manufacturer's warranty covering the same time period? How can a retailer change the terms of an earlier signed agreement? 2 of the 4 Lowe's employees I talked with described the Lowe's contract as beginning at the end of the end of the manufacturers. Beware, the Lowes employees are still out there selling this.

These charges are likely authorization holds that are placed throughout the life cycle of your order to ensure the funds are reserved for your purchase. When you place an order, your payment method is authorized for the full amount of the purchase. As items from your order ship, your payment is charged and the authorization is no longer held by Lowe’s. Orders shipped in multiple shipments will be charged separately at time of shipment; therefore, you may see multiple charges, but they'll never exceed the full amount of your order. For orders with longer lead times, your method of payment will be reauthorized to ensure funds remain available until your item is shipped.
