  I rented a unit at Extra Space Storage – 5842 Babcock Rd - that was marketed and billed as a 5×5 storage unit on a month-to-month basis. After moving out, I measured the interior dimensions and documented them with photos. The usable interior space measured approximately 31 inches by 47 inches, or about 10 square feet. A 5×5 unit represents 25 square feet. Therefore, the unit provided was less than half of the advertised size. When this discrepancy was raised, management stated that the dimensions were “irrelevant” because they were “renting a space,” and further claimed that we had signed the agreement after seeing the unit and had time to back out. This is not accurate. The rental process was completed entirely online. There was no staff on site when we arrived. We were required to locate the supposed 5×5 unit assigned to us AFTER paying online & signing the rental agreement. There was no opportunity to view/measure the unit beforehand due to us moving in from out of town. During move-out, staff repeatedly relied on the word “approximate” and stated “it’s in your contract,” while declining to address that the unit measured less than half of the advertised square footage. We are reasonable people and understand minor variances will exist due to wall thickness, differences in measuring technique, etc., but the dimensions of the storage units matter because the company uses unit size to determine pricing. A unit that is less than half the advertised size greatly affects its storage capacity and price value. This was misleading, effectively preventing us from making an informed decision. Because this issue has not been resolved directly, this matter is being reported under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices–Consumer Protection Act so that the advertising and sizing practices at this location can be reviewed. Photos and measurements have been retained. I’m sharing this so future customers are aware and can verify dimensions before committing.

  Today I got a rate change notification on my storage unit. So I called and talk to this young lady who help me . Alexandria she helped me to keep it at the same rate, she was so nice and polite. She really made my day. Being on SS and all the up rate going up I’m limited on what I can spend. Thank you again to Alex and Extra Space Storage
