I rented a unit at a rate of $54.00/month. After only three months—and while I was away on military leave—they nearly doubled my rent to $102.60. That is a 90% increase in just 90 days. To make matters worse, they claimed to provide "notice" by mailing a letter to my address, despite having my current email address on file. Because I was on active orders, I never received the physical mail, and they failed to use the electronic communication method explicitly mentioned in their own contract. Even their own contract lists the "Suggested Rental Rate" for this unit at $70.00, yet they jumped my price to over $100.00 the moment I was deployed and unable to move my belongings. This is a classic "bait and switch" tactic. They lure you in with a low rate, wait until your life is packed into a 10x15 box, and then gouge the price knowing how difficult it is for a customer (especially one on orders) to move out. Prospective Renters Beware: The "low move-in rate" is a trap. Expect a massive hike within 90 days. If you value ethical business practices and support for the military, go elsewhere. "In their BBB response, they admitted they refuse to email rate change notices—even though their contract says they can—and instead sent mail to an old address while I was on military leave. They did offer me a one time courtesy month of $80. They think an '80% hike instead of 90%' is a 'courtesy.' Servicemembers, stay away."
