Absolutely Disgusting Customer Service at Hobby Lobby
I’m writing this because my experience at Hobby Lobby was flat-out disrespectful, unprofessional, and embarrassing for a company of this size.
I came in to return a DEFECTIVE Christmas ornament—still in the package, with the string included, but completely missing the topper piece needed to hang it. Something that any competent employee could see was a manufacturing error.
The cashier, Nikki, did her job. No issue there.
The problem was her supervisor, Tina, who came over with an attitude before she even opened her mouth. The FIRST thing she said was:
“I cannot resell this!”
Seriously?
I couldn’t even use it. That’s why I brought it back.
Instead of focusing on the fact that the item was defective, Tina acted rude, prejudiced, and completely out of line. She talked down to me, dismissed what I said, and seemed more concerned about protecting a few dollars of store “resale value” than treating a paying customer with basic respect. Her tone was condescending from the start.
Then she tried to get ahead of the situation by telling the cashier to call a manager. When Corey, the MOD, walked up, Tina ran to him to talk privately and twist the story before I could even explain what actually happened. I had to step in because I wasn’t going to allow her disrespectful behavior to continue unchecked.
I made it very clear:
This wasn’t about their money. This wasn’t about policy. This was about a defective product and a supervisor who chose to treat a customer like an inconvenience instead of doing her job.
What’s truly ridiculous is how they suddenly cared so much about a damaged ornament when Hobby Lobby receives broken items in shipments all the time, and things break in the store daily. But for some reason, THIS defective ornament was the hill they wanted to die on.
The entire interaction was hostile, unnecessary, and completely mishandled. Tina’s behavior was unacceptable, and Hobby Lobby should be embarrassed to have a supervisor treating customers like this.

Unacceptable Service and Disrespect at Hobby Lobby
I went to Hobby Lobby to return a defective Christmas ornament that was purchased already missing the topper piece needed to attach the string. It was packaged with the string included, but without the essential part to hang it—clearly a manufacturing defect.
The cashier, Nikki, was polite and did exactly what she was supposed to do by checking with her supervisor about the return policy during the holiday rush. However, the real issue began when her supervisor, Tina, got involved.
Tina was rude, insensitive, and completely unprofessional from the start. The first thing she said was, “I cannot resell this!”
Ma’am… I can’t even hang it on my tree. Of course it can’t be resold—it was defective when I bought it.
Instead of focusing on customer service, Tina continued speaking to me in a condescending and dismissive tone. She then told Nikki to call a manager. When Corey, the manager on duty, arrived at the front of the store, Tina rushed to him to talk privately, attempting to control the narrative before I could even explain what happened.
I joined the discussion because Tina had already been disrespectful, and I wasn’t going to allow more misinformation to be passed along. I explained to Corey that this entire argument wasn’t even about their money—it was about basic customer service and doing the right thing for a defective product.
The fact that they were more concerned about resale value than treating a customer with respect is absolutely disgusting, especially considering how many items arrive damaged in shipments or get broken on the sales floor. A defective $5 ornament should NOT require an interrogation or disrespect.
The behavior I experienced from Tina was unprofessional, unnecessary, and incredibly disappointing. Hobby Lobby needs to retrain certain supervisors on customer service, respect, and appropriate communication—because today’s experience was unacceptable.
