Today when I came in, I only had two small items and the store was packed with everyone else in line having 10+ items. I would like to state that I was not in any rush and was willing to wait in line. While I was waiting in line, I noticed a register with only one person in it and walked over to ask if the register was open. I was told by what I assume is a manager/shift lead and the cashier that it was closed and to go back to my original spot in line. Not even a minute after I was told it was closed, the manager/shift lead walked over to the lady behind me in line that had 10+ items in her cart and told her that she could take care of her in the lane I was just told I could not be attended at. I was extremely taken aback by this as I was told the register was closed. Another customer noticed this interaction and was also taken aback by this and allowed me to get in front of her as I only had one item. She shared the same concern as me. I have been coming to this location for years and have never had any issues with any other employees or managers so I am disappointed after today. I don’t want to throw around assumptions, but I felt unwelcomed after this interaction as Mexican woman as the other customer that was accommodated for was White. I hope this issue gets addressed as I love coming here. Perhaps the manager was having a bad day or simply didn’t notice I was in line before the lady behind me, but I am finding that hard to believe as it was only a minute or two after I was told no, this register is closed that she brought over the other customer to help her instead. I spoke with the store manager Candy on the phone after this issue and she was extremely apologetic, kind, and willing to hear me out. Like I stated, I have never had an issue at this location until today after many many years of being a weekly customer so I hope something will be addressed after this.
