I research prices, compare options, read reviews, and take my time before I buy. That usually means I’m in a store longer than the average shopper. and that should not automatically make someone a suspect. Unfortunately, at the Burleson Hobby Lobby, it does. This location is the only Hobby Lobby where I’ve experienced this level of aggressive and uncomfortable behavior. On multiple visits, I’ve been followed closely, watched from behind end caps, and monitored by employees in plain clothes using walkie-talkies. It wasn’t subtle. It wasn’t professional. And it was clearly targeted. I can’t help but feel I was profiled — whether because of my tattoos, my appearance, or my clothing. Whatever the reason, it created an environment where I felt watched rather than welcomed. The final straw was December 9, 2025, during Christmas shopping. I was there with my 72-year-old mother, enjoying what should have been a normal holiday shopping experience. Instead, we were subjected to the same surveillance and harassment that’s become routine at this location. As I was leaving, I calmly confronted the manager. Rather than listening, she talked over me, called me a liar, and escalated the situation unnecessarily. After creating a scene, she attempted to kick me out of the store; which I was more than happy to accept once they brought me my change from the cash purchase I had just made. Let me be clear: I understand retail shrinkage. I understand protecting merchandise. I even respect loss-prevention efforts when they’re done professionally and respectfully. What I don’t accept is treating paying customers like criminals — especially customers who have never stolen, never will steal, and are genuinely there to shop and enjoy the holidays. Loss prevention should never come at the expense of dignity, respect, and basic customer service. I spend a considerable amount of money in the Burleson area. I will continue supporting businesses that value customers instead of profiling them. This Hobby Lobby will no longer be one of them.
