I signed up for an Extra Space Storage unit online in November for $45/month to store a few items that were causing health issues so they could off-gas. Just a few months later, my rate doubled from $45 to $90. When I called to ask about it, they said they had mailed a letter notifying me of the increase. What was even more confusing was the “solution” they offered. They told me the best they could do was increase the price to $112 instead of $90, which obviously isn’t a discount—it’s another price increase. Never received and they have no record of signature. After pushing back, they said they might be able to lower it but would need to ask a manager. The strange part is that I can go online right now and sign up for a similar unit at the same location for the original $45 price. That makes this feel a lot like a bait-and-switch pricing model. Pretty disappointing experience overall.
