I recently had an awful experience at the Lowe's on N. Perkins in Memphis relating to both the purchase and installation of a GE laundry center (washer and dryer). My purchase experience consisted of being put in a continuous loop between the operator and the appliance department for 20 minutes, eventually speaking with a person representing herself as the store manager, giving me a fictitious name and inaccurate information, having the supposed assistant manager hang up on me mid conversation and the inability to speak with the real store manager, Mike Alvarado, who was at lunch at 3:30 pm and who would not return my phone calls. Eventually I reached an associate who placed my order for over $1,900. Due to limited space, I cannot fully convey how bad this purchase experience was. My installation experience was even WORSE than my purchase experience. The installation was actually done so poorly, I had to have a real professional COMPLETELY REDO IT AT MY EXPENSE. Please let me explain. The installers arrived late and disconnected my old unit and moved it off of its dolly (which I had built to make installation easy). For some reason they left the old unit in the laundry room instead of removing it to make room for placement of the new unit much easier. They left and went to their truck for about 15 minutes. I walked into the laundry room and found they had flooded 2/3's of it by allowing the washer hoses to drain onto the floor for some reason. I mopped up the section I could reach but water was under the old unit they had left there. I did notice that they also tracked water through my kitchen. Several times I had to stop them from damaging my cabinetry and granite countertops by both yelling and using my hands to redirect the unit. I immediately asked if they had to remove the shipping rod and the lead installer said they no longer used shipping rods to ship washers. (This rod prevents damage to the washer bin during shipment.) As they were pushing the unit into place, I noticed a RED sticker pushing out on the right side. Just above it was an even LARGER red sticker IN PLAIN SIGHT stating “Remove Shipping Rod” with an arrow pointing to the rod and its RED cover sticker just below. I yelled stop and pulled off the lower red sticker revealing the shipping rod. I told them they apparently still do use a shipping rod and the notice about it was CLEARLY on the top of the washer, to which they had apparently never referred. (Please see photos attached.) One installer tried to remove the rod and kept bumping it into my cabinetry. I had to tell them to pull the unit out to remove the rod. The lead installer decided to use my old dryer vent and his connection of it to the new unit was a literal DISASTER. After he pushed the unit back into place, I asked if the vent vented straight out and he assured me it did. This was NOT TRUE. Please see the picture attached reflecting the dryer vent crumbled upon itself behind the unit, rendering the dryer USELESS as NO hot air could vent to the outside. My professional was astonished they would try to pull such a stunt. When it was time to zip tie the drain hose to a faucet to prevent it from pushing itself out of the drain tube, the second installer could not find the tie. I believe they were going to do the installation without it. I found it for them and then they secured the drain hose very poorly. I asked if they were going to clean up the water remaining on my laundry room floor and they actually TOLD ME TO DO IT. They said they did not have any more time to spend at my home (getting the installation done correctly). Unbelievable. Their testing of the unit basically involved turning on the washer and leaving my home. I do not think the dryer was tested. I was so concerned at what occurred at my home that I contacted my guard service and they have agreed to send extra security patrols to my house each day. They suggested I call the company headquarters and report what had gone on. I recommend purchasing NO appliances from Lowe's. (My photos may be posted later.)

I had a wonderful experience with a store employee named Jessica today, and I wanted to brag about her! She helped me find a space heater, which I was nervous about because I found one at Home Depot but it was broken. She walked me to the space heaters and helped me find the brand I was looking for. She opened the box to make sure it was in good condition for me. When we opened it, we noticed the handle was not attached to the heater; there were two screws where the handle is supposed to go, so, apparently it's up to the buyer to install it. I have arthritis in my hands, so I could not do that if I wanted to. She did not have a screwdriver on her, but she found a store employee named Jerome who did and was kind enough to install it for me. Jessica stayed with me throughout the entire experience and was friendly and reassuring. A++++ for Jessica AND Jerome! Get these two a raise and major holiday bonuses! Please send them my best!
