We ordered and paid for screened topsoil mixed with compost. What we received was fill dirt full of rock and large clay dirt clods.

Back in the spring we decided to use Out of Eden to get 6 scoops of topsoil for a project as they offered delivery. We paid for 6 scoops and delivery ($60 a scoop). The delivery was fast and easy. The website says “Our topsoil and compost are the highest quality available and priced per bobcat scoop/yard approx.”. This is completely false. When we started using our pile, we found rocks, lots of shale and it wasn’t good quality. We couldn’t use it in a couple spots we needed because of the poor quality. Called and talked to both Mark and Lex. Lex told me that during this time, the soil isn’t the best but he would make it right and deliver better quality at the next shipment they got in which should be delivered to them in about a week. I was promised once it came in they would call me. About 3 weeks go by and I don’t hear anything. We had multiple storms come through so our project was placed on hold. Not a big deal. So I call them back. They are still out but will call once they get more in. Fast forward a few more weeks and still nothing. I finally talked with Mark (who did call me back once they had topsoil) but by this time, we had to purchase bags from home depot to finish our project. Due to this, I asked if we could get a partial refund as I had to go out and purchase more from somewhere else as the stuff we got was more fill dirt quality than topsoil. The only thing I was offered was to bring back buckets of rocks and whatever was found in the dirt and they would replace the buckets with topsoil. I will never get supplies from them again due to the way Lex handled the situation. You can’t claim you have the best, blame it on the vendor and then not follow through on your end. Also we found a chewed up golf ball, golf tee, and plastic in the topsoil. We have had to spend extra money on other items because we’re getting some kind of thorny bush sprouting in the soil along with some other vegetation. Over half our grass seed we put down on what we could use where the top soil was needed didn’t take because it got crowded out by whatever was growing from the dirt. Also we were told to just use water and what we were thinking were rocks is actually clumps of dirt. I can assure you, that was not the case. Yes some were but most were big rocks or shale.

Marty was fantastic! We know nothing about plants and he ensured we got not only what we wanted, but also made sense for our yard. We will definitely be back!

Lex and his staff have offered us excellent customer service for the past two years. Out of Eden is our “go to” for our landscape and gardening needs. They also repaired a tiller for us through their small engine repair service. We highly recommend Out of Eden!
