I wanted to purchase a table that had visible scratches and chips on it. In the past, I have seen Hobby Lobby offer small discounts on damaged items, so I politely asked the manager on the floor if a small discount—at least 5%—could be applied because of the condition of the table. The manager refused to help and said they no longer offer discounts for damaged items. What made the experience worse was the way he spoke to me. He was very rude and looked at me as if my question was unreasonable or foolish. I am a U.S. Army veteran and a loyal customer, and I have shopped at this location many times. The saddest part is that even the cashiers recognized us and mentioned that the situation could have been handled differently and that a small adjustment like that has been done before. As someone who is also a manager, I know that situations like this can be handled with better customer service and fairness. I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable—just a small discount on a clearly damaged item. Because of how this was handled, I will no longer be shopping at the Gunbarrel Road location in Chattanooga. I hope the store reviews how situations like this are handled so other loyal customers are treated with more respect.
