  I parked my trailer at Extra Space Storage for 9 years. Started off at $63/mth, and I was given access to use their cardboard/trash dumpster to use from time to time. That access was taken away about a year later. I understand rates go up over the years, but my monthly rate for the same parking spot climbed up to $142. The parking area is gated. Last year a drunk driver hit the fence, the fence struck my trailer, totaling it. I had to go through my insurance. Understandable. 3-4 months later, the fence was finally repaired. I got a new trailer with my insurance money. 6 weeks later, I drive up to see that my trailer had been stolen from their gated parking area. The thieves apparently came through a side gate that had no cameras nearby. How convenient. Again, I had to go through my insurance. Fast forward 6 months, and the entrance gate was hit to where it would not close. Took about 2 months for them to fix it. During that time, anyone could have come and gone. 2 weeks ago, I was notified that registration information on my trailer was needed for "security purposes". My trailer (like many small trailers) is not required to be registered in the state of SC. They said everything parked had to be registered. I don't know why. Throughout all the previously listed events (trailer totaled and stolen), Extra Space Storage didn't lose a penny. Per the contract I signed, they are not liable for any damages/theft. So why is registration for something that isn't required to be registered by the state needed for something that you are not liable for in the first place? I went in today (April 3rd) to notify them that I had vacated my spot (I vacated about a week prior) and asked for a prorated refund for April. You guessed it. No refunds are allowed. It's like a sitcom episode. To end the story, I found a storage unit across the street for $70/month. The only reason this isn't a 1 star is because the people who work there were always nice and polite about everything. They are just the messengers. Big companies just don't understand that some policies might look good on paper (we need registration on things parked at our facilities), but don't make sense and need to be adjusted sometimes. Like when someone has been a customer for 9 years, had 2 trailers totaled/stolen, and forced to move for a crazy reason, you give that person a prorated refund. That's how you avoid getting bad reviews online. But again, big companies don't understand things like this. They just have "no refund" policies and call it a day.

  Love this place...I've using this company for few years now and Mr.John is very informative, helpful, courteous and polite. Totally recommend this company anyone that's looking for good honest services.
