I was looking forward to finally having my kitchen remodeled! I basically wanted the same layout but more storage if possible. I worked with Cory, and he was very helpful and made suggestions. Based on his recommendation, I ordered a pantry with LOTS of space and I LOVE it. And now that the kitchen is finally done, it's amazing. (I would have given a 1 rating if it weren't for Cory). But overall the experience getting to this point was HORRIBLE. If you don't want to read the long narrative that follows, the summary is that my husband and father-in-law (a retired industrial arts teacher who built his own home) provided all the measurements because those provided by the contractor were wrong. Cory (Designer) was GREAT, Brian (a manager) was insulting (#5), and Darcy (store manager) lied to me (#7-#9). 1. Due to contractor delays to get measurements, cabinets were ordered on the last day possible in order to get a larger discount. 2. Cabinets were ordered with same layout but shorter cabinets above the bar. 3. The cabinets arrived at the end of July. Order checked (no damages/matched the order list). But we weren't able to start installation until early September. 4. We hung the first upper cabinet (corner cabinet) and it was shorter than the old ones. And when we went to hang the cabinet to the right of the microwave, there was s 3-inch gap. And another 3-inch gap between the microwave and the cabinets above. Not sure if Cory misunderstood me when I asked for the cabinets above the bar to be shorter and made all shorter, or if a button was pressed that accidentally shortened all of them instead of only the 2. 5. We called Lowe's. Cory said he wasn't sure what could be done but transferred the call to a manager, Brian. Brian didn't really want to listen and kept telling us we approved the order and to return them would be a 20% restocking fee. I asked why would I have approved a design with gaps and was told "We don't know why customers do some of the things they do." I asked why Cory didn't mention the gaps and was told "The designer isn't supposed to give advice." 6. We went to the store to talk to the store manager, Darcy. At that time, I asked to see the 3D drawing of what I approved and....there were no gaps. Darcy said she would do some checking and get back to me. 7. She called the next day and told me that she had never been able to get a return call from the contractor who did the measurements but that she had talked to Kitchen Maid and the incorrect upper cabinets could be returned. And she said "GOOD NEWS". The reordered cabinets would be cheaper because the first ones were a custom order and the 2nd order would be standard size. 8. We went through all the cabinets and returned all of the upper ones but also the lower corner cabinet (it wouldn't fit based on the contractor's measurements) and also an appliance garage. It wouldn't have fit without some cutting (again because of the original measurements). Another appliance garage wasn't ordered, but we did a valance to the order (I'm sure the valance was cheaper than the appliance garaged). When we went to pay, the 2nd order was only $24 cheaper than the original order and that only happened because Cory and James, another manager, weren't able to get the new order cost to match the original cost. (They were trying to do an even exchange). 9. I contacted Darcy the next day and asked about the cost and was told that Lowe's had to pay the restocking fee. I'M SURE SHE KNEW THAT WHEN WE TALKED THE AFTERNOON BEFORE SO WHY WAS I GIVEN THE IMPRESSION WE WOULD BE SAVING SOME MONEY? I FEEL LIKE I WAS LIED TO.....WE ACTUALLY PAID PART OF THE RESTOCKING FEE. 10. We had to wait another 6 weeks for the second order, which arrived 10/6. The cabinets were installed by the end of the week. Because of the delay, the countertop installation date took longer than originally promised because of work they contracted between our first and second cabinet order. The project that started with a first order on June 29 was completed on 10/31 (cabinets, countertops, and floor).
