- KSKasey SteinbergFeb 25, 20261.0BEWARE: This location practices predatory price hikes with “Bait & Switch” tactics. Extra Space Storage is being prosecuted by New York City for their harmful business practices. I experienced these predatory practices personally as my unit rate was increased 54% within 6mo and no communication to my knowledge. When I called and asked for any record they had informing me of this increase, they said they couldn’t help me because I was “making demands”. They may get you in at a low rate, but keep an eye on your monthly charges and don’t expect any cooperation or accountability from the people working at the Ridgewood location for their predatory practices. **UPDATE 2/28/26: I have called Extra Storage numerous times to discuss this issue and after much run-around I received a call from Oscar, 2 weeks after I reached out and first asked to speak to him. I missed his call, but when I called back the property manager, Caleb, refused to let me speak to Oscar. Instead, he blamed me for not keeping a closer eye on my expenses and not noticing the price increase quickly enough for him to make any adjustments. Caleb made the interaction personal, trying to blame and shame me for their predatory practices. When I pointed out his gaslighting, he refused to speak with me any longer and hung up on me. Someone this harmful should not be in customer service, and most definitely not a decision-making manager position.

Customer service the likes I’ve never experienced before, as well as EXTREMELY knowledgeable about their storage offerings. I walked in a little frantic at the prospect of having to store all my belongings leading up to my enlistment in the United States Navy. Between the four of them, I left 10 times more knowledgeable & confident about the ease & convenience afforded to me through my neighborhood ‘Extra Space Storage’. They were compassionate, understanding, & ran me through all my options as well as potential scenarios as it pertains to my belongings tenure with them. I’m so ridiculously thankful to them & the support they will go on to provide for me in this exciting new era of my life!
