And then you’ll see subsequent increases that make it unaffordable. It’s like a bait and switch tactic, and I hate that about Extra Space Storage. The only bright light in that entire organization from my experience was Dee- the person who ran the Santa Fe Rodeo Rd store who was absolutely exceptional in every way.

As the manager for a small local business, I found myself in need of a climate-controlled storage unit to store my overflow inventory. A year ago, I thought I’d found the perfect solution in a nearby Extra Space. The facility is just a few years old, solidly built and very well-maintained. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. I soon found that I was as confident storing our inventory at Extra Space as I was storing it in our business. I would have been content to do business here for years to come. Unfortunately, Extra Space’s corporate pricing policy seems geared toward maximizing short-term profit, rather than valuing long-term, stable clients. This week, which marks one year since I moved in, I received notice that they intend to raise my rent by 31% over my current rate. This will represent a 69.5% increase over the monthly rent that I agreed to pay when I moved in. To be blunt, this feels like predatory business practice, and it is unacceptable. At this point, I am inclined to find a facility that values me as a long-term customer.
