I'm new to storage units and so is my partner so we didn't know anything about them. We had to move our stuff out because they said they would auction it if we didn't make a payment so we moved it out to pay half the price we owed. When we called the receptionist we told her we would get there at 5:30 she said very rudely that if we got there at 5:31 we wouldn't be able to make a payment and have to talk to the manager monday morning. I understand if you can't stay open past the closing time but you didn't have to sound so rude saying it. When we got there everything was extremely dusty, webs everywhere, spiders all over, mouse feces, and holes in our mattresses, bags, and boxes. We complained about it and same lady said we had to get a mouse protection plan and we were never told this. We couldn't take everything from the unit and thought since they were going to auction it off anyway to leave the stuff that was in good condition there. They called my partners mom really upset saying if we don't throw it out they're going to keep charging us till its out. My partners mom was just asking questions about what to do and the receptionist kept saying just have John (my partner call her.) Now John's mom is on the list and is the contact for the unit we have. I don't understand why she needed to talk to him so badly when Mom can handle everything. John was at work so mom told her no he's not here. So for people's first outside unit, visit your unit at least once a month if possible it not once every 2 months to clean out dirt and dust. Spray your unit with bug repellent, get mouse traps for your unit (this is if you want to do it yourself). If not ask the unit for protection plans. What can cause damage to your things and how to avoid it. Record the conversation for proof or what was said and not said. Read the terms and conditions of your unit. Keep all protection plans and contracts in a safe place. I wish we knew all this so our things weren't ruined. I hope this helps anyone for there first time using a storage unit. And again I understand if leaving stuff in the unit was a problem. The receptionist was just really rude to my family when she didn't have to be and not letting us know the possibilities or mice eating and ruining our stuff lacked professionalism saying we should've got the mice protection plan when we were never told about how bad it would he without it. We had our stuff there for 4-5 years. I wish I had the knowledge to keep my stuff protected. Thats something they just didn't provide on top of that being very rude.
