- RDRyan Davenport4 days ago1.0Deceptive Pricing and Aggressive Rate Hikes I notice many of the reviews for this is right after the customer moved in wihch would explain the high reviews. The people at ExtraSpace are nice when talking to customers and getting them set-up to move in. I was beyond disappointed with my experience at Extra Space Storage. When I signed up, I was led to believe that price increases would be "normal" and manageable—roughly $10–$15 after the first year and most likely on a yearly basis. Instead, they nearly doubled my rental fee after maybe three months. I did not receive 30 days notice as the customer service line told me I would get. This feels like a predatory "bait-and-switch" tactic. They get you in the door with a reasonable rate, wait until you are fully moved in and settled, and then jack up the price knowing how difficult it is to move everything out. Because of this unethical spike, I had to eat the cost of hiring movers all over again to find a facility that honors its word. To put it in perspective: it was more cost-effective for me to move into another storage facility, then rent a larger apartment with an extra bedroom for storage and easier access, then move my stuff from the second storage faciliy to the new apartment, than to continue paying those inflated rates. Pros: None at this price point. No amount of nice staff can compensate for this bait and switch. It's like buying snake-oil from someone who smiles in your face promising the elixir is without a doubt effective. Cons: Dishonest sales tactics, predatory price increases, and zero loyalty to customers. Advice to others: Look elsewhere. Whatever "introductory rate" they give you will not last long enough to make the move worth it. Furthermore, I was told it is was NOT an introductory rate when I called ExtraSpace before signing up online.
