We purchased a new GE washer from Lowe's, which broke down 35 days after purchase. 4 attempts to get the washer repaired through GE's "concierge appliance service", Bodewell, were met with significant issues. The 3rd party technician was from 2.5 hrs away- cuz NOBODY wants to work for Bodewell. We accepted the first 4 available appointments from 5/14-6/19. A great tech replaced latch assembly, a relay, main board and water pump. After the 3rd visit, they somehow lost our contact info and kept insisting I wait for an email- which wasnt coming. They told me they had no record of a tech visiting at all. Even though the tech proved it and the parts were getting sent from GE directly! Despite extensive efforts to provide evidence of a pathetic product and worse service, both GE and Lowe's refused to refund me. BUT I DONT WANT TO HAVE SHARED CUSTODY OF A WASHER WITH A DEADBEAT DAD PF A MANUFACTURER! Lowe's apparently thinks that 5/14-6/19 with zero results- and only after TONS pestering is normal. They said theyd replace- but chasing them down like 3rd graders avoiding homework was TOO MUCH LABOR FOR ME. Lowes said that 48 hrs after purchaae theyre out of the picture. I used to use this Lowes almost exclusively and have a low rate of returns. Ive NEVER returned an appliance in 24 years of home ownership until this month. The 5 week old washer and a 5 month old water heater from Home Depot. Same policies, btw. But Home Depot always values us, unlike the policies of Lowes. Between thecoat of the washer, too many trips to a laundromat, stalled communication leading me to buy a second hand washer as I waited, renting a truck for it, and getting so sick from all the fragrance in laundromats I normally avoid... Im shocked at how little Lowes was willing to help us. Under a similar test with a $1800 water heater HOME DEPOT EXCELLED! And Home Depot returned our money, picked up the water heater with flexibility and cheerful folks. Manufacturers and Retailers shouldnt forget that they exist because we keep buying everything they sell us with planned obsolescence as a goal.
