I was in search of potential plant nurseries in the area and stumbled upon this establishment. From first glance, I was actually impressed with the overall reception of the services received from customers; however, that was short lived upon seeing a recent comment given by a customer. After voicing her displeasure of the care her plant sustained when she brought it in for repotting, the response from the owner was actually quite appalling. Not only did she discredit her experience, but the owner was quite aggressive in the approach and extremely accusatory. The dialogue was actually quite disturbing. Despite the owner mentioning “repotting issues do not show up a year later”, I’ve observed from my own research where there are instances that issues can occur in that time frame. It’s unfortunate that this woman was dismissed and talked to in such a nasty manner.

Final UPDATE: in response to owner, regardless if you say it’s harmful or not, I never wanted foreign objects planted in my plants. To suggest that it’s not harmful as if it was ever ok to plant seedlings in someone’s plants without their knowledge or permission says it all. It happened exactly the way I described and it was personal from the beginning. Your responses show that. Don’t invite me to shop elsewhere, because I would never take a recommendation from you that’s one and two, you certainly will never see me again. Good luck with your “professionalism”. My review stands! 💪🏽
2nd UPDATE: in response to the owner, the initial issue with the acorns happened last year for clarity since you’re confused. I only mentioned it because I had ANOTHER weed to sprout which is the panic grass pictured attached. It sprouted from the middle of my plant because I repotted them LAST year after the acorns sprouted, not knowing that the soil had been contaminated in the middle of the plant. The soil I used which, is organic, has not shown any evidence of weeds etc in my other plants. The soil looked suspicious when I picked my plants up, but I was optimistic. After ANOTHER weed was detected in the already afflicted plants that were repotted in your establishment I decided to say something; it’s quite pathetic that you’re not mature enough to perceive that any seed takes time to grow. Let’s not forget that I had a plant that died. You want to go tit for tat because you made a mistake and I’m not one bit intimidated by your effortless attempts to prove you’re right in this matter. You’re not going to prosper this way, but hey keep that outlook and aggressive behavior to anyone who attempts to tell you that things were potentially mishandled at your business.
UPDATE: In response to the owner, it absolutely came from the re-potting done at your establishment. As I stated, any seed planted requires time to grow which should be an obvious point to you seeing is this is your specialized area. To your knowledge acorn seedlings “aren’t” harmful but I beg to differ. The amount of acorns I removed from my plants was ridiculous and pulled nutrients from my plants while growing. Secondly, I didn’t want acorns or any other foreign plant growing or planted in my plants. This shows your lack of accountability and integrity to attempt to minimize the fact that foreign items were added to my plants while in your care. My plants are indoor ONLY, and I don’t have oak trees growing inside my home. If you truly cared your approach would’ve been less abrasive and condescending. So no thanks, keep it. I’ve successfully repotted them myself and they are in better shape. It’s just a shame that I had this experience and you’re offended that I said something about it, instead of truly trying to make the situation right. 🤷🏽♀️ I just hope others don’t experience this too
I took my house plants that I’ve raised for years to be repotted a year or so ago. At first, I didn’t realize that the soil used for my plants was contaminated but it was. I had 4 plants repotted and all of them sprouted a foreign leaf that I found out were acorns. One of my plants died altogether and I couldn’t understand why. This has never happened before. I overlooked it until now, another sprout has grown up in the middle of another plant. I google lensed it and it says it looks like a “panicgrass” which is evidently a weed that stems from contaminated soil. All of my plants are and have always been healthy. My only purpose to taking my plants was to repot while I was in the process of moving. I’ve attached the panicgrass picture but didn’t take any of the acorn sprouts that sprouted first. I’ve had to do damage control with what has been done and lost a plant that I’d had for over 8 years. I’ve also attached pictures of my plants to show how healthy they are even after being damaged from harmful weed seedlings being placed in them. I don’t know what was used or why but this should not have been done, and the only way to know what was done is through time when these weeds sprout.

Frequently Asked Questions About Urban Pothos Houseplant Shop
Does Urban Pothos sell potting soil?
Urban Pothos offers an extensive range of soils to meet your plant care needs. Our selection includes premium artisanal mixes from various small brands, suitable for all types of houseplants. For those who prefer customization, our Soil Bar provides the components necessary to create your own high-quality potting mix. Custom soil blends from the Soil Bar are priced by weight.
Can I return a plant after I've purchased it?
Urban Pothos does not accept plant returns or provide refunds or exchanges for purchased plants. This policy is in place because we cannot verify the conditions in which the plant was kept after leaving our shop. However, if you experience issues such as pests, disease, or fungal problems within 7 days of purchase, we will replace the plant with one of equivalent value. Beyond this 7-day period, no returns, exchanges, or refunds are offered for plants.
When should I repot my plant?
The need for repotting is primarily determined by root growth rather than a specific timeline. Signs that indicate it's time to repot include roots emerging from the bottom of the pot, a dense network of roots (possibly encircling the root ball) when the plant is removed from its pot, soil that doesn't retain water effectively, or unexpected yellowing of leaves.
Can I re-pot my plants at Urban Pothos?
While Urban Pothos provides all necessary supplies for repotting, we do not allow customers to repot plants in our stores. However, we do offer a professional repotting service for those who prefer to have this task handled by our experienced staff.
What plants are pet-friendly?
Most houseplants have some level of toxicity to dogs and cats. We strongly advise against all varieties of lilies for pet owners. For pet-safe options, consider peperomias, calatheas, marantas, and pilea. To assist our customers, Urban Pothos identifies all pet-friendly plants with a paw print symbol for easy recognition.
How often should I water my cactus?
Generally, cacti require watering only once per month, which aligns with their native habitat's infrequent rainfall. However, certain species such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter cacti are exceptions. These forest-dwelling cacti have higher water requirements and need more frequent watering.
How can I increase the humidity for my plants?
Several methods can be employed to increase humidity for plants. These include using pebble trays or humidifiers, placing plants in groups, and regularly misting or showering your plants.
Is air conditioning and heating bad for my plants?
While HVAC systems maintain comfortable temperatures for humans, they can negatively impact houseplants. Air conditioning and heating units circulate dry air, which reduces humidity and can dehydrate plants. Using a humidifier can benefit both you and your plants in this environment.
Why are my plant's leaves yellowing?
Leaf yellowing in plants can be attributed to various factors. These may include nutrient deficiencies, pest infestations, inadequate lighting, improper watering practices, unsuitable temperatures, or drainage issues.
Are Calatheas difficult plants to care for?
Calatheas are often considered challenging due to their specific requirements. While their basic care needs are similar to many other plants, Calatheas distinguish themselves by their high humidity demands. Meeting this humidity requirement is key to successfully growing Calatheas.
