Broken delivery promise cost me a full day of contractor labor – zero accountability
I ordered $5,000 in roofing materials on February 12th from the Lowe’s at the Crossroads shopping center, with a guaranteed delivery for February 13th. They couldn't give me a time window, but assured me it would definitely arrive today.
This morning my roofing crew tore off the old shingles and waited for the delivery. When I called to check the status, I learned the order had been transferred to the Holly Springs store, and they had decided – without notifying me – to deliver tomorrow, February 14th instead.
My crew sat idle for the day. My roof is exposed. I'm out a half day of labor costs.
The staff offered no apology. Their solution? I could buy additional shingles myself, haul them home in my car, then return the “extras” tomorrow when the full shipment arrives. When I asked if they could coordinate with Holly Springs to send a partial delivery today, they said they had no control over that store. I even asked if they could reduce tomorrow's delivery amount to account for what I'd bought myself today—still no.
No one mentioned yesterday that another store would be handling this. No one called to warn me about the delay. When I asked to speak with someone who could offer a real solution or at least some empathy, I was told that wasn't possible. The staff acted like this was my problem to solve, not theirs.
A guaranteed delivery date should mean something. A $5,000 order should warrant basic customer service. I got neither.
