  I hired Barry Landscaping to do the flower beds at my mothers new home. I am a residential builder and only hired Barry’s because she had used the company in the past. The plants were acceptable and from what could be seen the beds looked good. BUT there was a problem, which I didn’t find until after I had paid them. A few weeks after, I was walking in one of the beds and noticed “huge” clods of dirt, large enough to turn an ankle. Upon investigation I saw they had not tilled the beds to mix in the planting soil. Instead they dug a hole for the plant added the soil directly to the hole and left the clods. In my 40 years of building I have never seen this. My landscapers till in the planting soil. This does two things. It gives you a good material throughout the bed for adding annuals later and more importantly, when the hole for the original plant is dug the material from the hole is not in clods. This allows it to be spread around evenly. Also, with all of the clods the beds won’t drain and you could not add annuals due to the clods. Barry was contacted and told my mother that is the way they do it. I am now paying my landscaper to completely remove all plants, till additional planting soil in and replant the beds. Use Barry’s “pay twice”.

  I wish that I would have read the reviews before I hired them. A year later after they removed old plants and planted new boxwoods, I’m still digging up roots from the old plants they removed and had to replant boxwoods in order for them to be evenly spaced and in a straight line as I requested.
