This is the second time I’ve used this company, On Duty Masonry Stove. The first time was a year ago when I had a creosote clog in my freestanding wood-stove. My first interaction with the company was Grace. She is professional, very knowledgeable and just a joy to talk with. When I asked to talk to the owner, she immediately transferred me to Brian. He was genuinely interested in what I needed to have done and we spoke for 40 minutes. He explained his business, discussed his background and how he performed jobs. Straight forward to the point, no gimmicks, no hassles, no hidden cost, not the least expensive, but the BEST. Minutes after talking to Brian I received a text with Jon’s picture, and confirmation of the date and time.
Upon arrival Johnathan (Jon), introduced himself, went over the SOW and began examining my three chimneys, took pictures, and proceeded expertly to clean the chimneys. Periodically checking with me on his progress and any issues he had or taking time to answer my questions. Jon spent 4 1/2 hours working diligently, professionally, very cleanly, which as you know is almost impossible when you’re cleaning a woodstove, and removed the clog. Jon was conscientious, use common sense in his tasks and thoroughly completed the job and left the premises CLEAN. Jon’s a great guy and left not an ounce of dust or debris in the stove.
Less than a year has passed since that first cleaning. Two weeks ago, my stove mysteriously stopped drafting almost overnight. I called talked to Grace. We had a nice conversation. She transferred me to Brian. I told him what happened. He said I’ll send Jon out tomorrow.
Jon arrived, in a great mood, greeted me with a smile and solid handshake, on time with a new employee, Jimmy. Jimmy was 1 month on the job, looked you in the eyes when speaking to you and wasn’t distracted from his task while answering any questions. Jon worked outside, while Jimmy started to clean inside. Jon quickly found the origin of the draft problem and told me what it was and we agreed on a solution, which they implemented as soon as two other, On Duty employees, Christian and Dominic arrive with the parts. If my memory serves me Dominic was Jon’s mentor and it showed. His professionalism and business acumen stood out, as did all four of them! I was impressed by both Dominic and Christian’s up beat nature and professionalism. They knew this job was going to be another successful completion and happy customer. I love to see that in employees because, it exudes confidence and solid business practices coming from the owner’s leadership.
Now I had four employees on the job and I was wondering what the bill was going to amount to. However, I was assured it would be fixed correctly and draft properly. They installed the new base plate and cap, cleaned out the entire chimney, while vacuuming the creosote and debris, so it didn’t enter the house and completely vacuumed out the wood stove of ashes and unburnt wood. Moved the stove back into place, reconnected the flue and packed up. They’re policy is payment upon completion of the job so I went out an ask Jon for the invoice and he told me, “Brian covered this for you”.
When I called Brian to ask why he told me. We stand by our job, QUALITY, done right the first time is very important and I feel we may have missed something so I made it right.
That Ladies and Gentlemen, made me a forever client of ON DUTY CHIMNEY!!!
