I understand charging $180 for a diagnostic visit — a technician needs to properly assess the issue before recommending repairs. That’s fair. What’s not acceptable is what we experienced.
Chris showed up and did what can only be described as a rushed, 5-minute “drive-by” assessment. With total confidence, he insisted the problem was the damper control — no real inspection, no effort to investigate the other issues I clearly described. When I followed up by sending additional photos to the office highlighting my concerns, I was dismissed with, “the technician is confident in his assessment.”
So we trusted them and paid another $275 for the part and installation.
After installing it, Chris then noticed moisture on the back of the refrigerator and casually informed me that the unit is “compromised” and has a leak — essentially confirming the fridge is failing and needs to be replaced.
That raises a major question: what exactly did the $180 “assessment” cover? Because identifying a critical issue like a leak seems like the bare minimum of a proper diagnosis.
Instead, we were steered into spending over $500 on a repair that never had a chance of solving the real problem.
Chris himself was polite, but the service was careless, overly confident, and ultimately expensive in the worst way.
*** Bottom line: if you use this company, do not accept a quick, surface-level diagnosis and push for a thorough evaluation — or you may end up paying hundreds of dollars for a fix that shouldn’t have been recommended in the first place, only to replace your appliance anyway.
P.S. They acknowledged their oversight and refunded us $50 for the labor charge to install the part... which also took 5 minutes... Oh, thanks for that!

If you DONT want to get ripped off you go with someone else. Had me order and pay for a washing machine gasket before the service call. Came with the gasket I didn't need. Said I should wait until the machine leaks. Here 5 minutes. Left me with the unwanted part $116 and a bill for $173 to deliver the part. A $300 lesson. Be wise.

Several months ago a relative had an issue with her diswasher and, because she was at work, asked me to come to her house to let the service technician in. I was very impressed by his professionalism and made note of the companies name - Cape Appliance Repairs. Though it had been many years since we had an appliance malfunction, our refrigerator failed us this week so I called Cape Appliance on a Saturday and left a message. In less than an hour, they returned my call. Their employee, Kristie, was very sensitive to our dellima and suggested I try one thing that might get us up and running. I did as instructed.....and it worked! First Class customer service!!
