We went to several different home supply stores in the area one day, and only at Lowe's were we greeted warmly and asked if we needed any help. We were actually greeted by 3 different employees around the store, it was a breath of fresh air, most places ignore you these days. For that customer service alone, employees that actually seemed to care that we were there, I'll return to Lowe's first when choosing a home supply store.

John back in plumbing was incredibly helpful! He ran all over the store to help us and make sure we were getting the correct price on all of our items! If you’re looking for help, go out of your way to find John! Thanks again!

Short backstory: Last November, we purchased items totaling over $350. Of that purchase, nearly $70 went towards lightbulbs, unfortunately, they were incompatible with our fixtures, and we had come to return them within the return window. These 18 lightbulbs (returning 12 because the others burned or broke) were the only lightbulbs we had purchased in years. Lowe's is our go to hardware store; therefore, we knew with certainty that we had not purchased any bulbs from any other store. We had the receipt and Google searches to prove it, whether or not the receipt was scanning correctly.
-----
My husband and I normally have such great experiences at Lowe's, but yesterday, February 6th, 2026 we had an encounter that completely changed our perception.
Within minutes of arriving to the customer service line with a return, my husband was called a liar, accused of stealing the lightbulbs and/or of trying to return items that must had been purchased elsewhere because the bulbs that he was trying to return "were not the ones purchased with this receipt". This woman with short dark hair and glasses, at some point tried to go and ask a manager, and without the manager even coming to see the matter for himself, just dismissed my husband's return to this lady who then told my husband she couldn't proceed. We were dumbfounded; it made absolutely no sense.
After nearly 20 minutes of back and forth, and very terrible things being said to my husband that I could hear over the phone, I had to wake up our very young daughters from their nap and bring them inside to discuss the matter myself. When I arrived, the woman who had been accusatory and rude to my husband was already gone, I never ended up encountering her, but my husband certainly deserves an apology from her. A manager (Dale) had also joined the conversation by the time I had arrived inside.
Side note: I found Anita (another employee) to be helpful but Dale was quite passive. As my husband went back to find a lightbulb that matched the ones we had previously purchased, I decided to introduce myself to break up some of the tension by just quickly saying "My name is Cindy by the way." Dale responded with "Sure, we understand." Not the most fitting response, to me I just took it as his impatience as he did appear annoyed to be held up at customer service. But I know I could have read the entire situation wrong.
Anyways, after I explained everything to them, as my husband had, but perhaps with more detail as women often do, Dale had begun to look through the individual lightbulb boxes, and low and behold, there were 1 or 2 different bulbs in the mix (to be fair, all boxes were colored the same and at first glance they looked indistinguishable from one another). We figured out then, that what had most likely happened back in November, was that the lady who checked us out (who had been extremely kind and helpful to us) had scanned one box and put in the quantity for 18, little did any of us know that the box she chose to scan was different from the rest and that is why the bulb, scanned initially, was not showing to be the one's on the receipt.
None of us there could have imagined this outcome, but that surely isn't the point of why I'm writing this review.... This is: Had we been met with a team of customer service representatives who were true problem solvers instead of being immediately accusatory and extremely dismissive, our experience (and theirs) would have been different. Spending 30+ minutes on a return that could have easily taken less than 5 minutes had there been a little investigation, would have made a world of difference. We have been loyal customers and have spent thousands of dollars at Lowe's throughout our ten years of marriage, from many large appliances to lightbulbs and everything in-between. However, we will now be taking our business elsewhere... there is no excuse to have poor customer service.

So I was looking to replace the carpeting in the entire upstairs of my townhouse, around 1000 sq. ft. plus stairs. I had been to the other big box stores talked to some salesman, got an idea on prices and went home with some samples. Since it's a cold day with nothing else to do I decided to give Lowes a try. Also they advertise 50 percent off some of their carpets. So we get to the carpet department which has a huge assortment of carpeting and look around for a while. Unfortunately there is absolutely no one around to help you, just an empty desk with a computer. Not sure how you sell carpet without a dedicated salesperson to provide their expertise or at least have some samples that you can take home. Its not like a piece of lumber that you can just pick off a shelf. I would say it was a wasted trip but at least I can cross Lowe's off my list of places to buy carpet.
