- JSJacob SimmeringJan 6, 20265.0We needed some trees with branches near the house trimmed to provide clearance from the house. One of the trees is gingko that is 175+ years old and beloved by many in the neighborhood. We had several arborists come out to provide estimates and all were quite similar to each other in recommendations and pricing. However, Matthew from Acorn ArborCare was truly excited about that tree - "that's a really big tree!" He took measurements and told us about the Iowa DNR Big Tree Registry. It was clear that he cared about the health of the trees that they were working on, something that was an important consideration for us. Everyone I dealt with at Acorn was great, responsive, and friendly. The trimming was exactly as outlined and the site left in great condition after they finished.
- PDPamela DoraleDec 14, 20251.0Do not hire Acorn to do anything but light pruning. And be sure youre not on a tight timeline. The people are nice enough, but they kept delaying my job and coming up with excuses as to why they couldnt do the work. They never actually did finish and havent followed through. After multiple calls, I had to just give up on them and hire someone else. They left my pines in the most awkward and ugly partially trimmed state, I didnt enjoy going in my backyard anymore . They actually told my son that they enjoyed driving around in their trucks and trying to get out of doing big jobs. Dont waste your time and money on this company.

How does an EAB infestation kill ash trees?
While adult beetles feed on the tree's leaves causing minimal damage, it's the larvae that prove fatal. These larvae create serpentine feeding patterns beneath the bark, disrupting the cambium layer and effectively cutting off the tree's circulatory system. When should I treat my tree?
Treatment is most effective before your ash tree becomes infested, while the canopy still appears completely healthy. At Acorn ArborCare, we conduct treatments from May through July when trees can most efficiently distribute the treatment chemicals through their xylem. With EAB now firmly established in our community, we strongly recommend beginning treatments this summer if you haven't already and wish to preserve your trees.
Should every ash be treated?
Not all ash trees are good candidates for treatment. We recommend treating only healthy, structurally sound ash trees. Trees already in poor health, those with significant structural defects, or those with a history of dropping large branches should be removed rather than treated.
