Because I had made a copy of that key already. It was stored in their database. They validated me as the rightful owner, and presto magico, out comes a perfect copy of the key.

You no longer have to wait for the key guy to get paged and winnow his way to you at the key machine only to find out that they're out of the key you need. It wasn't cheap, but so convenient! And I love that they can store my key info so if I lock myself out I can run over to Lowe's and make myself another key instead of having to hire a locksmith.
