  Absolutely appalled by my experience with Homesense. I purchased an item from the Lakeside store and was clearly told I could return it to another branch. I then made a specific trip to the Romford store within the return period, with a valid receipt, only to be refused a refund for a completely unreasonable reason — they claimed they couldn’t “match the item” in their system. When I asked where this was stated in their returns policy or on the receipt, I was told it was an “internal issue.” That is not the customer’s problem, and I should not be penalised for their internal failings. The manager was dismissive, rude, spoke over me, refused to provide her full name, and would not attempt to resolve the issue (even refusing to contact the original store). I left without a refund, out of pocket for parking, and now expected to make a second journey at my own time and expense just to get my own money back. Interestingly, when I contacted the Lakeside store, they confirmed the Romford branch was wrong and should have processed the refund. To make matters worse, the Homesense customer service number advertised online was not even operational during stated opening hours. This experience was unacceptable from start to finish. I will be escalating this formally and expect both compensation and accountability. Avoid the Romford store unless you want to deal with poor service and inconsistent policies.
