Unfortunately, my experience at RH Gallery in Mayfair on Sunday was extremely disappointing, and I left feeling very uncomfortable and, quite honestly, singled out.
From the moment we arrived, we were repeatedly stopped and told that we could not take photographs. Initially, we were politely told that professional photography wasn’t allowed, which we completely understood and respected. We were then told that taking photos on an iPhone was fine. However, as soon as we started taking photos of ourselves on our phones, we were immediately told that this wasn’t allowed either and that we could only photograph the items.
What made this particularly uncomfortable was that we could clearly see other guests taking photographs of themselves without being approached or stopped. We were also stopped while walking up the stairs before we had even reached the top and told that we couldn’t take photos on the stairs. At that point, it started to feel less like a general photography policy and more like we were being specifically monitored.
We then went downstairs to the restaurant, which at the time was practically empty, because we wanted to make a reservation. We were told quite abruptly that they weren’t accepting any new bookings and were only focusing on the reservations they already had that day. We asked whether we could instead book the rooftop for food and drinks, but were told no because everything was under the same system.
We continued upstairs and eventually spoke to the restaurant team there, where we discovered that there were in fact bookings available. The experience with the restaurant staff was completely different we were treated much more respectfully and professionally, which made the contrast even more noticeable.
I genuinely left feeling very disappointed and uncomfortable. I don’t like to assume someone’s intentions, but given the repeated stopping, the difference in how other guests were treated and the overall attitude towards us, I couldn’t help but feel that race may have played a part in how we were treated.
I had travelled all that way and didn’t want to simply leave, but I honestly wanted to from the moment this started happening. It’s a shame because the venue itself is beautiful and could have been a lovely experience, but unfortunately the way we were treated completely overshadowed that.
I won’t be returning, and I really hope management takes feedback like this seriously. No customer should leave a venue feeling singled out, unwelcome or uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, my experience here was extremely disappointing. The main issue was the way we were treated regarding photography. We were repeatedly approached and told that we were not allowed to take pictures, even when we were simply taking pictures of the furniture and interior design because we genuinely liked the space. We were not taking pictures of ourselves or disrupting anyone.
What made this particularly frustrating was seeing other people taking photographs without being approached or told to stop. This made us feel singled out and uncomfortable. Given that there appeared to be a clear difference in how we were treated compared with other customers, I was left concerned that our treatment may have been influenced by our race.
If photography is genuinely not permitted, then the rule should be applied consistently to everyone. We would have had no issue respecting a clear and consistently enforced policy, but being repeatedly singled out while seeing others allowed to take photographs felt unfair and discriminatory.
Horrible experience..
I most certainly think it’s an race issue… they have mentioned there is no photos allowed but I saw a few other people taking photos, but got approached by 3 members of staff within a 10 minute space.. to remind me that I cannot take photos… when I saw other people of different races taking photos of themselves but with us it was an issue I do not I’m not having a good experience here I’m very upset I travelled really far down and I was told I was not allowed to take photos when there was other people doing the same thing!!!!!!!!
They had security follow me around like I’m a criminal is this the way to treat people who come to your establishment ???? This isn’t a nice feeling at all and I don’t think I’ll return to this one the staff here are just a joke…
Also the restaurant said I couldn’t get one upstairs in the roof top and I managed to get a booking at the table!!!!!
This isn’t how you treat people….

Me and my cousins had the pleasure of dining at the Perch and it was such a wonderful experience being served by Eugenio and Rokibul. Eugenio was a character and made us laugh, it was positive and fun. We were greeted on arrival and straight away they made sure we were comfortable with our location in the gorgeous Birdcage. We ordered many dishes from the menu which tasted divine. The portions are generous so we probably could have shared the steak between two. We also ordered chips with the lamb chops which we realised too late that it already came with potatoes. However, it was delicious!! And I recommend them and also the octopus. The cocktails were lovely and we didn’t feel like we had to wait long to be served all the time.
RH London is honestly one of the most beautiful restaurants I’ve visited. The pictures I’ve attached don’t even do it justice. I would recommend booking a table just before 6 p.m., as you can enjoy your dinner and still have time to explore the stunning gallery afterwards. We dined in the ground-floor restaurant, but there is also a beautiful rooftop dining area upstairs. The entire space is absolutely breathtaking.
I visited for my graduation dinner with my family, so it was a really special occasion.
First of all, I want to give a huge shout-out to Cherise (I hope I’ve spelled her name correctly). She was an absolute gem from start to finish. So warm, friendly and genuinely welcoming. Even over the phone, her tone was so professional and kind. RH needs more people like her representing the brand.
The two ladies at the front desk were also incredibly friendly, understanding and welcoming. Unfortunately I didn’t get their names, but they made us feel at ease the moment we arrived.
A special mention also goes to the gentleman who served our table. I wish I had taken his name because he was outstanding. I used to work as a waitress myself, so I really appreciate great service when I see it, and his was genuinely 10/10. Attentive without being intrusive, professional, polite and knowledgeable. He helped make my graduation celebration memorable.
The only reason I almost didn’t give this experience a perfect review is because of one staff member who answered the phone earlier that day.
I called to let the restaurant know we might be running 5–10 minutes late. Anyone who lives in London knows traffic is unpredictable, and we also had my young niece and nephew with us, so delays can happen. The first thing she said was, “Well, it looks like we’ll have to reschedule it.” Honestly, that completely caught me off guard. For such an important family celebration, hearing that a reservation might be cancelled over such a small delay was disappointing and unnecessarily stressful.
When we eventually arrived, there were only a handful of tables occupied in what is a very large restaurant. Even the two reception staff seemed surprised that this had been said to us. Thankfully, they handled the situation professionally and reassured us immediately.
I genuinely think RH should review how reservation calls are handled because first impressions matter. One conversation almost made me change restaurants altogether, which would have been a shame considering how exceptional the rest of the team were.
Despite that one negative interaction, every other member of staff, from security to the reception team and our waiter was friendly, professional and welcoming. They completely turned the experience around.
As someone who has dined at places like The Shard and Corinthia, I can honestly say RH London deserves to be mentioned alongside them. The setting is spectacular, the food was excellent and, thanks to the wonderful team (especially Cherise), my graduation celebration became a memorable one.
I would absolutely recommend RH London and will definitely be returning.
