As a veteran I have trusted Lowe's as veteran-friendly establishment. That is, up until now. My veteran credentials had always allowed me to receive a discount at Lowe's until my most recent purchase on 19 February, 2026. On this occasion, I went through the process, providing my phone number (as usual). The clerk said nothing indicating that I had not received a discount. However, on inspecting the receipt I noticed that no discount had been applied. What appeared on the receipt was: "military-personal use sale" and "item not eligible for discounts". Every time I have purchased this item at Lowe's I had received the Veteran discount. Now Lowe's appears to have changed the rules. Further more, I was told that the item in question was already discounted
Thus, there would be no "additional" reduction of price. Well, every place I checked listed the retail price of this item as what Lowe's (according to employees) listed as the "discounted" price. My next move was to immediately return the item, which I did. I subsequently purchased the same item (Everydrop freezer/water filter) at another home/hardware store, and received the appropriate Veteran discount. By the way, their list price was exactly the same price as Lowe's "discount" price. I have no plans to visit Lowe's again. I would rather have one of Lowe's competitors appropriately thank me for my service.
