I am documenting an incident that occurred at the Alameda location. This incident started when I was (trying to) buy shirts to tie-dye, and noticing that Hobby lobby uses nicer hangers and not cheap plastic ones…well I thought that the socially appropriate and kind thing to do would be to remove the shirts, given that they had security tags that were bright yellow in the size of a softball on them, and then I openly placed those hangers back onto the shelf. I believe that the employee must’ve already been intently watching me right there, but within 20 seconds a male employee who looked like a police officer but was clearly some sort of a loss prevention agent came flying up to me and stated that the world would likely stop turning if I put those shirts directly into my cart where they could be openly observable instead of taking the yellowing ugly hanger because that’s going to make all the difference in my intent. Nevertheless, I said OK, I’m so sorry. I had absolutely no idea about this policy. Let me go ahead and summon and collect those yellowing hangers and comply with your request. This is when the interaction turned completely violating an inappropriate. The guard never left I retrieved the hangers, I put them back on the shirts, so as to not create any more shirt chaos and mayhem, I hung them off of the cart, figuring that this would get this guy out of my face. But this is not what happened. He proceeded to stand there, staring at me, drilling his eyes into my body for approximately five minutes, watching me, hang every one of those last four approximately shirts, back onto the yellowing hangers, and then he never left my side. In the most obvious way, that could only be made more obvious by the fact that I am myself former LP—was for a significant amount of time at stores that are known for having good loss prevention not stalkers on staff. I myself was trained by the big red bull’s-eye who has the best asset protection far better than whatever this was. So I know how bad this is. And I then proceeded to the shelf to where the tie-dye was, which I had planned previously to place upon the shirts. Suspicious I know, especially because I had to reference my shopping list in between. This was my truest crime. And then he proceeded for the next 30 min to follow me so closely that I could feel his eyes drilling into me and his breath on my neck, every time I walked down an aisle he would just stand there and stare at me taking a parade rest position, as if guarding Fort Knox instead of cheap shirts. During my visit, I was subjected to prolonged, targeted observation by an employee without any justification or further explanation. There were multiple other customers present, and I did not engage in any behavior that would justify that level of attention. No employee approached me at any other point to communicate a concern or policy. The experience was distressing enough that I left the store. I attempted to address this directly with the store, but the response was dismissive and unhelpful. As a result, I have escalated the matter through corporate channels and requested preservation and review of CCTV footage from the time of the incident. My goal in sharing this is simple: that this type of situation is reviewed internally and does not happen to other future customers, as not only violate every foundational Loss prevention guideline, you never know when a customer might, like me, feel intensely unsafe, threatened, and extremely 9 this due to things like being a crime victim, a recent one, and then having a grown man stalking them around the store in a threatening way - Particularly because monitoring me over CCTV would have been a completely acceptable option, which is also the option that every other store in the world uses, which is why I’ve never experienced this type of harassment while simply trying to buy tie-dye supplies. These people absolutely need training or they will be no more with how much they are going to get put through the wringer legally if this behavior generalizes.

Has everything a crafter could need. Something you'll find easier at Walmart which has better hours of operation.
