I had a prompt reply to my initial email to them, with an estimate for my two wool area rugs. We set the appointment for pick up; they even offered to dispose of my ancient rug pads, which was really helpful, as they were quite bulky. ( I was purchasing new ones.) The rugs were ready on time, and they brought them back today and Sam and his helper lay them out for me (and even helped me to trim the two rug pads to the correct sizes.) Excellent service all round and the rugs look like new. The price for their service is very reasonable, considering the level of service and the meticulous multi-step method they use to thoroughly clean the rugs (see their video of the process on their website.) How can I prevent fading?
Oriental rugs fade in sunlight. If you expose your oriental rug to direct sunlight, the rug's colors are virtually guaranteed to fade. Natural, as well as synthetic dyes, can suffer equally. If your rug has already suffered fading, give us a call for expert assistance.
How do I keep moths away?
Moths are the #1 enemy of oriental rugs. Although certain measures can be taken to prevent wool rugs from moth damage, the best defense is to vacuum the whole rug periodically (especially under furniture). If you think your rug is exposed to moths, Martinous Rugs offers a safe and odorless mothproof treatment that can be applied to your rug.
How often should I rotate my rug?
To extend the life of your oriental rug, turn it 180° every year or two. This helps even out your rug's exposure to traffic.
What should I do in the event of a spill?
Whenever possible, clean a spill immediately before it has a chance to set. Immediately scoop the spill with a spoon, then blot with a towel. If you see the spilled substance still on the rug, cover the stained area with table salt. We do not recommend wiping with a rag as this can spread the stain. In addition, do not use any carpet cleaning products as many contain bleach. Let the salt stand for 1 hour, then use a wet towel to clean up the stain. If there is no improvement, call us immediately.
Do I need to bring my rug in for services or do you offer pickup and delivery?
We offer free pick up and delivery for our rug cleaning service within all South Bay cities including Fremont and Peninsula cities.
How often should I clean my rug?
It depends on where the rug is located, traffic frequency on the rug and how much dust it is exposed to (i.e. living on a farm or on the beach). The idea is to keep your rug dust free so the fibers are not worn down when it is walked on which preserves the softness and texture of the wool.
On average we recommend a deep rug cleaning every 1-3 years.

Rug cleaning can be a complex endeavor, given we deal with rugs from all around the world and each type will have its own temperament. Our experts have seen it all and we have 9 generations of knowledge to draw upon, therefore your fine rugs are in very capable hands.
What does your rug cleaning process entail?
At Martinous Rugs, we use a old world multi-step process from a full inspection and testing of your rug's dyes and construction to dry dusting the rug to ensure all allergens and debris is removed, then a thorough shampooing and finally a through rinse to ensure all soap residue is clear. We follow that by applying a wool conditioner to further soften the rug's pile, and a hand scrubbing of the rug's tassels followed by a thorough drying in our state of the art drying facility to ensure the rug is free of moisture prior to it being laid on your flooring.
How do I know my rug is worth cleaning?
It may be cost effective to get a new one, depending on the rug, but higher quality pieces like wool or designer rugs are worth being looked at. Give us a call and we'll give you a free appraisal.
How much for a rug cleaning?
The average cost to clean a fine rug in the US can range from 3 -8 dollars a sq ft. Please give us a call and ask about any seasonal promotions, we currently have 20% off during the winter.
