I was quoted $300 to have them prune a few privets in the front of my house that were getting too tall for me to reach with my A frame ladder. I thought the price seemed steep, but a few years ago, they removed a stump for me and did great work, so I figured I'd give them a chance.
Sadly, the job they did for $300 looks terrible, and a couple weeks later I am still working to finish things up myself. A few of the specific issues I had:
- The 3 mid size privets have bare ugly branches sticking out the top, which we specifically talked about cleaning up (they didn't). These were also not shaped well in the front. They were supposed to be flat & hedgelike. They took them in a bit, but they were very uneven.
- One of the 2 smaller privets (on the left), I asked them to just shape/round. This was done minimally, but still needed work.
- The last privet (on the right) was the smallest, and I decided to have them leave it, so it could grow out a bit. I bring it up b/c (one might hope) having lightened a short job even more, they would have all the more taken time to do things right.
The guy I primarily interacted with was courteous & seemed like he wanted to do the job well, but in the end they didn't. It was a hot day, and I knew the guys were hustling from one job to the next, which I felt was likely a factor in the poor job they did.
IMO there needs to be more emphasis on quality over quantity. I felt the work they did was worth (at very most) half what was charged. I gave 2 stars (instead of one) since I never left a positive feedback for the stump grinding they did a few years ago.
