I had a very disappointing experience with Leon’s in Truro.
I called simply to ask whether a mattress I purchased from a Leon’s location in Ontario could be returned through the Truro store. When I purchased the mattress, I was advised about a return/exchange policy associated with purchasing the mattress protector, which I also purchased.
The receptionist was polite and told me that the manager would call me back. Instead of calling to understand the situation or ask about my purchase, I received a voicemail saying, “Absolutely not. We are not set up for that at all. There are actually no returns to start with,” and that since I purchased it in another province, it would have to go back to that store.
I understand completely if different Leon’s locations are independently operated or if an Ontario purchase cannot be returned in Nova Scotia. That isn’t what bothered me. What I found unprofessional was the dismissive way the question was handled. I wasn’t demanding that they accept the mattress—I was asking a question and expected a normal conversation, especially after being told that a manager would call me.
A simple explanation of the store policy and some guidance on who I should contact would have been enough. The tone of the voicemail, particularly “absolutely not” and “there are actually no returns to start with,” was unnecessarily dismissive for a customer simply asking for information.
Very disappointing customer service from the Truro location.

I purchased a refrigerator from Leon’s Truro for a high-end short-term rental. This was a brand-new unit in its original factory packaging and was sold at full price—it was not a floor model, clearance item, or discounted in any way.
We transported the refrigerator home in an enclosed trailer, where it was properly secured for the trip. The salesperson even watched it being loaded. Once home, we used the proper appliance hand truck to move it inside, taking care not to rest anything against the front of the refrigerator or handle it in a way that could cause damage.
When we removed the original packaging, we discovered a large dent and several scratches on the front of the refrigerator.
A few days later, I returned to the store to discuss the issue with the manager. Unfortunately, it was clear they were not interested in taking responsibility or working toward a reasonable resolution. The blame was quickly placed on me, despite the care taken during transportation and handling. The only options offered were a $50 credit or bringing the refrigerator back to the store to have the doors replaced.
No estimate was provided for how long the repair would take, and no loaner refrigerator was offered. Considering this appliance was purchased for a short-term rental, being without a refrigerator was not a practical option. I was also concerned that transporting and disassembling a brand-new refrigerator after it had been removed from its factory packaging increased the risk of additional scratches or damage.
I’m sharing this experience as a warning to future customers. If you purchase an appliance from this store, I strongly recommend having the staff remove the packaging before you leave so you can thoroughly inspect it. Once you take it home, don’t expect the store to accept responsibility for damage that may have existed before you ever opened the box.
