So I called these guys up and told them I needed a locksmith. They said no problem. After a bit of back and forth (turns out this is a nationwide company) they said they'd get someone there in about 30 minutes. They said nothing about price, didn't quote me anything, just said they'd send someone out. Which is fine. Right after that, my neighbor finally gets a hold of me. We get the spare key, get into the house, and I immediately call and cancel the order. Person on the phone is very friendly and says, "no problem, thanks for letting us know," and hangs up. Ten minutes later, my phone rings with a number I don't recognize. An app on my phone warns me it might be spam so I ignore it. Another 5 minutes goes by and my phone rings again with the same number. This time I answer. It's the locksmith people telling me I owe them $30.00 for fuel and the time of the driver because he was, "only 1 minute away from my house when the order was canceled." No one ever showed up to my house, certainly no one did anything, no price was ever discussed, no one even told me I might be charged. I told them right off I was uncomfortable with the idea of someone calling me up out of nowhere and charging me money for a service they didn't provide, especially given that this was never mentioned as a possibility. I really don't think it's ok for a company to charge you something with no warning. Ever. I think it's appalling that they'd call me up, after the service has already been canceled, and ask for money. But, I do live a bit outside of town so I went ahead and paid them. Which I honestly shouldn't have done. 10 minutes later my phone rings again. Same number. It's the locksmith people wanting to know how the service was. I told the woman on the phone it had been canceled. She immediately became very concerned over whether or not they'd been paid. She clearly had no idea how close or far away the driver was (or wasn't) from my house when the order was canceled, which makes me think the other guy probably didn't either. I told her I didn't think it was ok to call someone up and ask for money for a service you didn't provide. She seemed to get even more upset and hung up on me. And $30.00??? When they told me they'd be at my house in 30 minutes??? What are they putting in their trucks, rocket fuel??? Next time I need a locksmith I will for sure call someone else. And I'd advise you to do the same.
