- JFJohn F.Dec 31, 20241.0I’ve used the Minute Key kiosk inside Home Depot 5 times the last 6 months and only once was a key able to be made. Yesterday, Minute Key kiosk could not duplicate a key. A Home Depot floor person reported they could make it (it was a basic padlock key) but were out of the blank needed for the duplication. They suggested a similar kiosk nearby named Key Me Locksmiths. That kiosk also could not make the key. But at least the kiosk advised the reason- key is not common, although for a fee it could be mailed to my home. Minute Key…….I get it. Some keys are stamped do not duplicate; are difficult or older keys; the machine is out of inventory, etc and a key cannot be duplicated. But presenting the customer with a generic reason of being unable to make the key as “unable to duplicate your key” is not helpful, especially if Home Depot can do it. I suggest providing the customer with a “reason” as to why keys cannot be duplicated when Minute Key cannot do so.
