- JBJames BowensAug 17, 20252.0We went to the container store for the first time on yesterday, 8/16/2025. The store was very clean and organized. For the most part, the staff was very friendly. There was one female employee in particular that is the focus of this review. I saw her walking around the store a few times with some type of discount cards in her hand. I noticed that she would never come near me. If we were in the same aisle, she would go down a different aisle, almost as if she was avoiding me. I was at one of the center tables looking at some products and two female customers were just feet away from me looking at Items at that same table. that same employee walked over to the ladies and asked if anyone had approached them about the 25% off discount. The ladies said that they had not been approached so she explained how they could get the discount and gave them a card with some type of QR code on it. The ladies thanked her and she glanced at me and walked past me. She did not offer the same information to me. I turned around and watched her, actively looking down aisles to approach customers to tell them about this discount. It was obvious that she had no intentions to offer the discount to me. I found out who the manager was and approached her about the situation. The first thing she said about the situation was “she did not do it intentionally“. As a former business owner myself, I don’t think it is good customer service for a manager to make excuses for an employee. it was very obvious that it was intentional. I witnessed her seek out other customers that she had not interacted with, but she walked right past me and did not greet me or anything. The manager was definitely very nice and accommodating. To be honest, it was hard for me to decipher if she was just over the top with her friendliness because of my complaint or if it was actually genuine. I’m not one to always use the color of my skin for reference to bad customer service but I was the only black person in the store and I was wearing a fluorescent orange shirt and shoes. Who knows. Maybe she has something against the color orange.
