- STShawn ThomasJan 30, 20261.0Ten years ago I rented a small apartment for $500. Owner sold and rent doubled under new landlord. You know that drill. I put everything I owned in Uncle Bob -> Life Storage -> Extra Space and it progressed straight downhill. My rate had been under $200 and quickly climbed to $600 under the Extra Greed banner. That's more than the rental I couldn't afford at the beginning of the story. Add in the regular 20% late fees as everything spirals out of control and it's completely absurd. I had recently updated my mailing address with them but if they send mail it kept going to the old address which was no longer forwarded. The shorter version of the story is that to them I am only worth whatever money they can extract before tossing you aside. I literally lost everything I tried to save. I was just a normal guy who now has zero. I should have never trusted a company to value my existence. Remember, they'll lock you out once your payment is late and you'll never see any of those belongings again. I wasted $35,000 and a lot of constant stress. Just sell everything on your own terms so they can't auction it all and discard you. Wanna see the bill for the $1500 they think I still owe them?
