  I am writing on behalf of my brother Dennis Hinic regarding an incident involving his wife with Alzheimer’s disease. A caregiver who was not known to the family was sent to the home. .During her shift, his wife was allowed to leave the house unsupervised. Fortunately, Dennis’s son was home at the time and went searching for his mom and brought her home to safety. We are extremely grateful this situation did not result in harm and this outcome could have been very different. The incident raises serious concern about the caregiver’s training, judgement, and understanding of Alzheimer’s. Allowing a cognitively impaired individual to leave the home unattended is a significant safety risk. The safety of a patient with Alzheimer’s is our highest priority as family members. We thought we were getting that in hiring Home Instead. I am a Registered Nurse helping my family find the best care for my sister-in-law Sandy. Unfortunately, this was a very emotionally painful situation for all of us.

  Home Instead was very helpful to my wife and I in our journey. The representative that was assigned to us, Denise, was fantastic. Very professional and friendly. She made the process very manageable. I would recommend giving them a try if you are in need. Jeff

  Scheduling was erratic and poorly handled. All but two of the caregivers were horrible. They were unskilled and could barely communicate. I would never recommend this company snd certainly will never use them again.

  Bad experience , wife in hospice care. Sent unqualified individual. Then next visit, better but only needed 2 hrs, of work, sent home still billed for 3 hrs. called cancelled, told will not work for us. Still sent another person. which I refused. Billed us for over $300. Read your contract. We got refund for first day that was disaster but billed for the rest. Will not recommend.

  Zero regard or respect for patients with ALS. I was sold on this facility based on the LIE that they had available caretakers experienced with ALS patients and that I would have one caretaker with ALS experience assigned to me for an ongoing basis. Since December, I have seen three different caretakers a total of 10 and 1/2 hours when my agreement is for one caretaker two times a week for 4 hours a day. In addition, multiple attempts have been made for resolution with the sales rep and various staffing reps directly, however, because of ALS with bulbar syndrome, I am treated as an invalid without any mental capacity while numerous promised calls back are never received. Beware and request proof from the sales pitch before buying. They are fraudulently selling the service for taking care compassionately for patients with fatal diseases. Before you finish reading this post, please give hugs or calls out to your loved ones because it is hell to suffer this misery without family or friends for help to rely on. I am at the complete Mercy of a health system that does that care to care for a person such as me.
