Sidney is a wonderful trainer!
She walked us through what is expected of us as Home Instead caregivers, as well as what we can expect from Home Instead in return. I appreciated the clarity, encouragement, and insight she brought to the session. Looking forward to being part of the team!

Valerie is our caregiver for my Mom. She does an amazing job, sweet, loyal, positive, pleasant, caring, and loving. She cares for my Mom like she was her own grandmother.
Home instead is also very caring and organized on the billing and working with the insurance company.

Home Instead helped me to care for my father-in-law over the course of a year and a half. Because of the care they provided, I was freed to do things on the weekend for the first time in years! They were always good about communication: and I certainly called regularly to make sure that we had the right kind of care for a person who was becoming more and more physically dependent. They were able to provide caregivers who could do a lot of heavy personal care. It allowed me to restore the relationship with my father-in-law so that I could be a family member rather than a caregiver.
One of their caregivers was astute enough to make sure that my husband and I came over when he noticed a change in my father-in-law's health. Because of this we were able to make my father-in-law comfortable and say goodbye during his last hour of life. Now that's staff that go above and beyond and take caregiving to heart.
Attached is a picture of my father-in-law in the portable walk-in tub that it took myself, a neighbor and two caregivers to make happen every Friday. Without this help, he would have had to live for a year with only sponge baths. Bath day added to his quality of life greatly!

How are caregivers hired?
Home Instead is constantly searching for talented and compassionate Caregivers to enhance the lives of seniors and their families. We search for people who are engaging, caring, and empathetic individuals for this role.
After a candidate completes the employment application, there is a multi-step interview process plus a drug screening and background check prior to joining the Home Instead team.
Upon hire, a team member will receive on-the-job training starting with orientation to learn all about how to care for an aging adult and their family.
Are our caregivers background checked?
Yes! Each of our caregivers goes through an extensive interview process, including two background checks, a drug screen, and calling references. All caregivers hired pass our rigorous screening and interview process, ensuring that the person in your home is safe and trusted.
What training do caregivers received?
As part of the hiring process, all team members undergo caregiver Orientation to learn about caring for seniors and their families. In addition to orientation, all staff receive training in, and must demonstrate mastery of, providing care for our aging loved ones. This includes the aging process, safety of caregivers and clients, and how to build a relationship with clients.
Washington state requires that caregivers obtain the Home Care Aide (HCA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licenses within 200 days of hire. The majority of our caregivers have these certifications upon hire, and for those who don't, we require that the obtain the license.
Staff receive training for all aspects of their expected role including how to be the eyes and ears for the family of our clients. Specialized care training, such as Alzheimer's care, is taught to ensure a full understanding of the necessary aspects of providing exceptional care for these individuals.
