A rep came out and spent quite some time with my daughter early summer 2025. I called Oct 2025 to check on status of wheelchair. Was told by a diff rep that her case was closed. No explanation. I left message for the rep to call me. It is now 2 MONTHS LATER and no one has called me. I am going with a different company. NS has gone downhill. I used to use them for all my daughter's mobility needs. Not any more. 2 stars because at first they SEEMED to care.

I recently acquired a new power chair with NSM in Salem, as I have my last two power chairs with over more than a decade of patronage. Dennis Yearout is the best technician with whom I have ever worked and is excellent in both repairs and deliveries. For this most recent chair, delivered in June 2024, Stuart Bennett has also been an exceptional rehab technician therapist, delivering my chair safely and expediently. He was extremely knowledgeable and compassionate in the explanation, use and handling of my chair. He was an absolute godsend in successfully aiding me in acquiring the most useful and innovative equipment for my new chair, including the I-level vertical seat elevation, which allows me to live and work more independently than ever before. Most importantly, transfers are made exponentially easier with this new feature, which lessens physical strain on both myself and my wife. Abbie Dalton was extremely helpful in assurance that the billing process went smoothly despite a major hiccup with my insurance. She was also courteous in explaining my benefits and how to most expediently and efficiently attain my much-needed new power wheelchair. NSM Salem is the best company with which I have ever worked in over 30 years of needing wheelchairs and equipment repairs. I look forward to many more years with them.

Frequently Asked Questions About National Seating & Mobility
What makes NSM the preferred choice for obtaining mobility solutions?
At NSM, we are uniquely positioned to search hundreds of sources for the precise components needed to create a chair that is made specifically to meet the needs of each client. Each chair can be designed for maximum comfort and ease and will provide the specific therapeutic benefits prescribed for you by the health care team. But what really sets NSM apart is our approach. We work from the heart, honoring your journey of independence with efficient, friendly attention that puts your interests first. This is our life’s work—to help others move through life—and we take it very seriously.
How can I work with NSM for my mobility needs?
National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
